Why won't my mission launch?

Post by fatgreta1066 »

I've got a Land Strike mission with a bunch of radars as targets. I've assinged a number of escorts, both fighters and SEAD aircraft. I've assigned 4 aircraft armed with ARM missiles to the attack itself. The escorts all launched and the strikers are just sitting there not trying to take off at all. Can anyone help me understand this? Mission size shouldn't be an issue. The mission is SEAD OKinawa, Quzhou is the airbase, file attacked.

Thanks,

Chris

the game doesn't consider ARMs strike weapons.

Also worth noting, when I manually launch them they are immediately "RTB Mission Over." I can't even guess why that is happening.

Thanks

the game doesn't consider ARMs strike weapons.

So is there no way to send ARM equipped aircraft on a strike mission? Do I have to set up a patrol or something?

Thanks,

Chris

you can use SEAD patrol, yes. if you want to strike a specific radar site you can always use a support mission to get them out there and then order them to strike as well.

This confused me for quite a while the first time I encountered it, because I always considered modern ARMs strike weapon (I go out to strike a radar with this ARM) but the sim doesn't consider them such.

fatgreta1066 ... You probably checked, but maybe the targets are out of fuel range of the strike A/C. This has happened to me with strike missions.

Just a quick thought.

I did check that but it's what Cik said, ARM missiles not considered strike weapons. I've got a workaround as he suggested using a support mission and manual attacks.

Thanks,

Chris

Use SEAD Patrol mission. You can grow, shrink and move area (and target) as desired. This is how I isolate SEAD targets.

I tried setting up a little sandbox scenario with two strike missions (Land Strike) mission with two fixed radar sites as targets each.
I set up two strike missions (Land Strike).

I then went to the doctrine window for the mission and set the Weapon State RTB to "No, aircraft do not RTB when weapon state is reached".

I set up two sections of F-16 Blk 52 CCIP (2016) armed with a total of 4x AGM-88C and one section was assigned to each mission.

When the sections was assigned the strike planner set up routes that were appropriate and I also tried assigning a couple of F-16 Blk 52 CCIP with CAP loadouts as strike escorts, one section for each strike mission.

When starting the game the strike packages fly the set course to the launch point and launch their HARMs against the fixed radar sites, which did destroy most of the radars. Meanwhile the escorts engaged a couple of sections of Mig-35s as should be,

So even if ARMs are not considered strike weapons there is a workaround for it, namely to set the doctrine to not allow the planes to decide on their own when to RTB because of weapon state Shotgun reached.

I unfortunately cannot upload files yet, but try it for yourselves.
