there are times that living in a society based on the rule of law just doesn't seem good enough. At least with the rule of the sword the problem would already have been dealt with.

I'm a johnny come lately to the thread here, but if it had been my daughter you wouldn't see me for a few years, because I most certainly would have killed him with the first lethal object in range.

I am sure glad someone I know though, isn't one of so many news items that is more unfortunate.

Lest you doubt what some of us have said about "prison justice."

From the news today:
The Boston Herald reported that Geoghan, a high-profile prisoner segregated from the main prison population in a protective custody unit at the time of his death, told Leslie Walker, executive director of Massachusetts Correctional Legal Services, he "was terrified the whole time he was in prison."

"In the prison population, men who have killed or abused children are at the bottom of the totem poll," said Dr Jay Feierman, a psychiatry professor at the University of New Mexico's medical school, who served as psychiatric medical director for the state's prisons.

"The sociopaths somehow have this hierarchy about who is beneath them and child molesters are at great risk."

Geoghan was one year into serving a sentence for fondling a young boy while they were swimming. At least 130 people accused him of abusing them while he served in various Boston area parishes.

I am told that while most that are in prison even for horrible crimes are still no nicer in most cases, they do feel the frustration of the loss of ability to protect those outside the prison that do mean something to them (there are plenty in jail that have family on the outside).

When they get ahold of someone that could have done their family harm under the right circumstances, they tend to meet out a very harsh judgment on them (they kill them).

After all, if you are in jail for life for murder, what can they do to you if you kill a child molestor.

How about this:

Beer for my Horses (Toby Keith)

Well a man come on the 6 o’clock news
Said somebody’s been shot, somebody’s been abused
Somebody blew up a building
Somebody stole a car
Somebody got away
Somebody didn’t get too far yeah
They didn’t get too far

Grandpappy told my pappy, back in my day, son
A man had to answer for the wicked that he done
Take all the rope in Texas
Find a tall oak tree, round up all of them bad boys
Hang them high in the street for all the people to see that

Chorus:

Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we’ll sing a victory tune
We’ll all meet back at the local saloon
We’ll raise up our glasses against evil forces
Singing whiskey for my men, beer for my horses

We got too many gangsters doing dirty deeds
We’ve got too much corruption, too much crime in the streets
It’s time the long arm of the law put a few more in the ground
Send ’em all to their maker and he’ll settle ’em down
You can bet he’ll set ’em down ’cause

Oh, and Happy B-Day Bernie!!!! 21 Yet???? ;)

Jess,

Just now (and sorry for the delay) read this, as I mistakenly thought it was another internet "someone needs a kidney" post. Obviously not.

I can't believe that someone would target an 11 year-old. It makes me shudder to even think of that.

I guess there have always been a few dark souls creeping around in the septic system of society, but most of us (thank God) rarely come into contact with them.

One contemporary item of interest (and hopefully, relation) might be the fate of a convicted pedophile priest. He was killed by another inmate (on Sunday IIRC). He had his cell door wedged shut, he was strangled by socks, and had his chest and abdomen stomped on repeatedly. These $#!t bags get what’s coming to them eventually. Call it “karma”, whatever.

I’ve heard it said that “the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. “ Believe me, I know justified rage (found my now ex-wife in a motel room with another guy this past February). I know how you feel. Have a nice little Bushmaster AR-15 myself. Tempting…

But I think that the above statement was preempted by the Lord, when he said “Vengeance is mine”. Leave it be.

Work on your daughter’s recovery, I pray it will be swift and complete.

Here is a nice, comfy chair for that monster to sit in when they catch him again:

I can't believe they let a rapist go on bail so he could run away! Is he related to the judge or something? Sheesh!
