Installation, space and Steam
Hello....What better place to ask the following info...but Matrix forums themselves...I'm ready to buy War in the Pacific Ad.Ed. but I have a few questions I wondered if anyone out there can assist me. This will be the first time I bought anything from Matrix. I have a Steam account and there is a button that says add games. Can I add my Matrix game to Steam. Suppose this question might be better on the Steam community. Sorry. In addition all my games are set to install in disc partition D on my laptop as opposed to C. I have an ASUS I5 notebook with Nvidia so I can play games using windows 10. Does this WitP ad.Ed allow you to install the game wherever you want it or is it destined to only be installed in disc C program files? How much space do I need to play this game in gigabytes/ or how big is this game in taking up gigabyte space? Does this game work alright with windows 10? I'm assuming wherever the game is installed there will be a shortcut to click. Sorry all my games are on steam and I'm just not familiar with installing Matrix. Probably people prefer to completely own their games so that's a good thing buying this game as opposed to Steam. I really want this game and the last thing I want is trouble getting it installed and set up correctly or some software glitch with windows 10 I wasn't aware of. This game isn't cheap. Any advice here would be greatly appreciated thank you.
RE: Installation, space and Steam
You cannot add WitP:AE to your Steam account/library; however, you can add a shortcut to the game in Steam so that it appears in your list of games in steam. This helps if you're used to using your Steam game list as a way to pick what to play.
Yes, the WitP:AE installer allows you to choose an install directory (including selecting which drive to use):

For reference, my current install directory of the game is 7.7GB, but of that:
1. 2.1GB (28%) is extra documentation/reference material I've added
2. I've added a lot of 3rd party art mods to the game at 1.6GB (21%)
3. The 3rd party utility WitP Tracker adds another 1.6GB
4. I use automated saves liberally which comes out to just under 1GB (12%)
My guesstimate for typical disk usage is between 3-4GB, sometimes less, depending upon how long you've been playing the game (save games) and what 3rd party art and utilties you decide to use.
The game works great with Windows 10, but it requires some 'switches' to be added to the game shortcut. These are essentially short text commands that are sent to the game's .exe file when you run the game. Some expertimentation will be required to get the right combo of switches for your computer. I developed an app to help with this; see my signature for a link and more info.

RE: Installation, space and Steam
Hello....I downloaded your Seabee app and tried 920 x 1080 , 1600x 900 and nothing works to fit the game on my screen to fit it. It's strange because I usually use 1600 x900 on War in the east and west both work fine. I have a ASUS laptop windows 10 . The game just does not fit my screen ….too small no matter what I do. I cannot believe this game does not have a place to click on size of screen and resolution. I know you tried to fix this with your Seabee app but the screen always comes out like half the size of my screen (Which judging looks like 10 by 13 inches or so) I never measured it. I tried also this properties target thing and changed settings there still reacts the same way. How do you get a bigger screen to play the game on? ...this is frustrating. What other measurements should I try?
RE: Installation, space and Steam
Did you actually start a game? The menu always is displayed small, but when you start a game it should fill the screen.
this is the full screen menu

greenmoray1,
Is BillBrown correct that the smaller main menu threw you off, or is the game window also small?
BillBrown,
At what resolution do you play the game? I would be willing to make some custom 'map border' bars for you so you won't get those blank dark spots on the right side, if you'd like.

It doesn't bother me. I usually use a windowed version, 2540 x 1540

RE: Installation, space and Steam
When I try to use full screen the computer shows the tab for the game come up or it will show a black partial screen and I can hear the game starting up in the video movie but my computer freezes and I cannot use task manager to stop the game so I have to shut the computer off. That's with using Seabee app on that mode. When I use the Seabee app mode at 1600 x 900 which is what my computer screen display settings are the screen is smaller about half the size of my screen. It has the square to enlarge at the top but it just clicks it to another side with the same size. The best I can get is with 1600 x 900 but that is on the non patch version of the game with about 2-3 inches of black screen left.
I cannot be certain but I think when I first launched the game I had the full screen before the patch addition and after this not so.
I am not used to taking photos of my screen. Walk me through the steps to take the photo screenshot so I can show you my screen example.
With this Seabee app ….I followed exactly like the model was displayed in display settings cpu etc and it did not work....that's when the computer froze. settings were 1920 x 1080 which I have also used a lot switching sometimes between 1600 x900 and this. When I tried the patch shortcut without using Seabee app I could make the screen bigger with my display settings on my computer but it covered the game exit even with hiding task bar.
So the very first shortcut from my very first non patch installment gave me the best fit but could be better for sure at 1600 x900...and this same measurement on the patch version of the game was smaller. I don't have a clue why. Nothing makes sense to me.
That's my situation (about game /computer freezing ...did not happen on other display settings in Seabee or the patch shortcut or the original version shortcut. Yes there are 3 short cuts here. 1 original installment, 2 the patch installment and 3 Seabee app. Crazy.
Now tell me what to do so I can show you the screen shots.
In the mean time....I have an ASUS windows 10 zen laptop with gaming nvidia card no problems with games/ screen size I'm guessing 13 by 10 inch screen or slightly smaller... Computer is set for 1920 x 1080 but I like to set it on 1600 x 900 makes my text smaller and icons..what settings would you say fit this game..I experimented with many in seebea app and the patch and the original also using my computer settings when I wasn't using this seebee app.
I'm done

Chemkid created a set of "long" menu bars so they run along the whole width of the screen.

RE: Installation, space and Steam
To answer your question Korvar my display settings are at 1600x900 but I guess for specific game purposes I can switch to 1920 x1080. That's what windows 10 recommends in general use of my windows 10 ASUS laptop. but 1600 x 900 comes out too small considerably so especially on the patch version fix of this game. Alittle bigger on the non patch version and small using seebee app. I play WitW and WitE and TOAW 4 all on 1600 x900 perfectly. I do not understand how or why I cannot get this game to fit decent display settings. And why does one measure on size of screen than the other if they are both the same setting numbers. driving me a bit out of my mind. Been up more than 12 hrs. dealing with this here in Thailand. tell me how to send you screenshots...yeah I know I should know how but I have never done so...thanks

RE: Installation, space and Steam
game window is also small. There was a pattern I saw and began to predict. The size of the loading screen would be same as the game screen. so no game screen smaller. I mean if I am playing on my ASUS windows 10 laptop using 1600 x900 settings all the time in use including my games ..and the screen is good ...how then can the screen be quite a bit smaller using the exact same settings ...tried it in sebee ap and also typed in target 1600 x900 also 1920 x 1080 which you would think definitely would work as it's bigger than 1600 x900...but still left a couple of inches of screen when launched. and actually not playable cannot read important stuf even after hiding task bar. Mystery to me. I'll restart my computer and try things again. This all started when I decide to add the linked patch and that's when my screen messed up. at first launch I think the screen fit well. I asked for another downloadable link but haven't received one back yet.
RE: Installation, space and Steam
I run WITP:AE on a 15.6inch laptop in 1600x900 resolution inf fullscreen mode. Native resolution of my laptop screen is 1980x1020.
My switches look like this:
"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\Beta2\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -altFont -skipVideo -archive -deepColor -dd_sw -px1600 -py900
I suggest you:
1. Fresh install of WITP AE
2. Install the latest official patch (which enables fullscreen mode in non-standard resolutions) WITP Admiral's Edition v1.01.24 Official Update from here:
http://www.matrixgames.com/products/351/downloads/
3. Install the beta patch (optional)
4. Adjust your switches

It will be very hard to diagnose the problem if you do not post your switches.

I think maybe this is the picture David is trying to post: the problem is that the forum doesn't support PNG files.

I clicked embedded pic in post but it doesn't show but they are here attached. The next is 1680 x1050 again screen too high cannot access things. I clicked embedded told it takes time. Again this screenshot is with just the patch added no seebee app...just me adjusting on my computer another setting. This is insane the game does not have a screen adjustment built into options

RE: Installation, space and Steam
FYI for posting screenshots:
larryfulkerson is correct, the forum is picky about what file types it will accept. Only gif/txt/jpg/zip are supported. For any non-image file types, just use a program like WinRAR to put them into a .zip file. For images, use an image hosting site such as imgur. Use the 'new post' green button in the top-left of the imgur website or just drag the image you want to upload over the website. A 'drop images here' popup window will appear. Once you've used the button or dragged at least one image to the site, it will take you to the 'new post' screen. There you can add and remove images, edit them, etc. Right-click one image and select 'Copy image location' or 'Copy image address' (the specific phrasing used will depend upon what browser you're using). Then use the 'image' button in the forum's post editor (or write it yourself) to create the image tags, then paste the image address in between them so you get something which looks like this:
(Note: You can use the 'Preview' button at the bottom to check if it's working correctly before posting it.)
Your monitor's native resolution should be the highest resolution it can support, as that number is literally the physical number of pixels present on the screen. Lower resolutions can be used, but then the monitor is 'scaling' the image to fit its physical size. Typically this is done when everything (text, icons, etc.) is too small to use effectively when using the monitors 'native' resolution. The game is certainly capable of supporting many resolutions, so there's something specific to your computer setup that is throwing us off. My suspicion is there's some form of display scaling going on.
Here are a couple things to check/try:
Right-click any blank/open area on your desktop wallpaper. Then click 'Display Settings' as shown:

Check that you're not using any display scaling, then click 'Advanced display settings':

Check what resolution your monitor is actually using (you might also want to see what is the highest available):

Next, right-click your WitP:AE shortcut and click on 'Properties', then click on the 'Compatibility' tab and check the 'Disable display scaling on high DPI settings' box like so:

Also, make sure you used 'windowed' mode in SeaBee as follows:

(any of the 'windowed' options will do, also use the resolution appropriate for your monitor)
