RE: Installation, space and Steam

Post by greenmoray1 »

I downloaded the base game 2009 file and installed that. The game window is in the center but not full screen. I do not know what the display settings are for this as it is just whatever generic settings that come with the game. I want to make the game not so slow and better screen. I downloaded the patch update for 2015 but the newest one I couldn't install kept saying something about archive whenever I tried to unzip it. And with the update it starts and then says something about retry and cancel and will install after reboot ..then I click cancel and it starts installing and then that finishes. But where do I look to see if the game really updated this patch. Then assuming it did update I downloaded the file for Seabees and here is where I get confused. What is this file. Once I'm done with it and I choose the switches in the Seabee menu which are windowed and 1920 x1080 yes and click on the shortcut and the shortcut is white not regular. So I check the switches on this shortcut by right clicking on it and then run as administrator on this same short cut but it acts like it's installing an update again and it does not launch the game and so I go ahead and it's like I'm installing all the time and not launching the game. So now I have 2 shortcuts one that launches the game that is the base game and the other that says or asks me where the file is to launch the game and I find the exe for the base game and it says it has an error. I don't understand what or how to use the function of this Seabee download since I have the base game already installed. Everytime I run into the same problem. It would be 10 billion times easier 1. if this game had a game display screen adjustment in the options menu and 2 if someone could just lay out the steps for me to follow but with one shortcut not 2 or even three. That's where I get lost. And if you think this is normal method for gaming installing....no way ..this whole thing with adding and seems to me like writing code (call it what you want but I do not know what to write here. other than the display settings. Oh yeah and then when I do write what are switches I get this that is invalid bs....guys I dont' care how you think this is a breeze ...you got to be kiddin me. I just want the game to fit my screen and play it. These things to do are not easy for me.

Lastly the switches for the Seabee shortcut are "D:\Pacific only\updates\WarinthePacificAdmiral'sEdition-UpdateComp-v1124.exe" -wd -pxf1920 -pyf1080 -deepColor -dd_sw -altFont -archive

That's what is written in the target space

Start in "D:\Pacific only" (Pacific only is a folder I made is disc D where my free space is) and I clicked maximized... all of the words in target etc I read ...I did not write this in any of it.

Now in shortcut that has the base game the target folder on properties right click says "D:\Pacific only\autorun.exe"and in start it says "D:\Pacific only"

That's it 2 different shortcuts and when I click on the Seabee one it goes to like it's installer again like a repeat of what I already did. and the first base game shortcut ...well that will launch but the whole idea is to play the patch update version game and have a little better speed and display settings right? Just for fun I will let this update install again....that's where I'm at. you got the switches too

Lastly the switches for the Seabee shortcut are "D:\Pacific only\updates\WarinthePacificAdmiral'sEdition-UpdateComp-v1124.exe"
This is for the shortcut to the Seabee's program and what we need to see is the switches for launching the WITP-AE game engine. Don't use the autorun.exe thingie....point your game engine shortcut to the directory that has the executable, probably the "beta2" directory. And the "start in" probably has to be the root directory for the game.

I scrapped all of my previous WitPAE content. Started over. This is for Larry but all others too. (I wrote another msg before but I think it didn't get posted...but if it did it's the same type of msg.)

I downloaded the base game and the April 2015 update

I have one shortcut

My switches are : (I did not write this, it's just what it says)
D:\Pacifik\autorun.exe

Start in: D:\Pacifik

normal window

You tube guy called uncle timo has these switches: 6 min. video titled War in the pacific HOW to install up to the latest beta patch

C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\ Beta2\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe"-f-dd_sw-deepColor-fixedArt-SingleCpuOrders-archive-altFont-px1920-py1080-skipVideo

I use "D\ not C (all my games and space is in disc D)

Contacted Slitherine guy who gave these switches: C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -w -px1920 -py1080 -dd_sw -deepColor

He added, Please note that the -px1920 and -py1080 it's for the case if your desktop screen resolution is 1920x1080. If you have a different one, change px and py values accordingly.

I tried his by typing in my one and only shortcut but it came back invalid path. I put in D instead of C maybe that's why it didn't work. I installed both the base game and the update in 2 separate folders in disc D....the update was in the Pacifik folder in its own separate folder. I figure it may have said invalid path because I didn't type in Pacifik to where it goes to... I don't know. But the switches the slitherine guy gave me were rejected path invalid. Is it just because I ues D or typed D instead of C. I have no room in C.

I'm waiting to hear back from this slitherine guy.

Help me understand something: Now this is going to be kind of obvious to you I guess but here goes.....The uncle Timo guy on you tube has 2 shortcuts 1 being the vanilla game no beta/ and 2 the more updated and advanced beta 2 game for modern computers. Now does he have 2 whole games and one is a more advanced version because it includes updates etc, or does he have just the one game and the beta2 launches both games and the updated advanced stuff because he clicked on the beta 2 shortcut. Not 2 separate whole games right, or am I wrong? To me an update is a piece of a game or an improvement but not the whole game. But yet he has 2 shortcuts. It has to be that that beta2 shortcut activates both the base game vanilla and the added modern stuf ....or am I all wrong. It's the 2 shortcuts that I'm not used to. Ok say your talking about civ5 but you only have the vanilla base game ....you don't have the DLC for gods and kings but the DLC is added into the vanilla game but you only have one icon shortcut not two.

Please explain beta 2 and the relations to the base game in terms of how they work and clarify whether if each shortcut is a whole game /on with no updatesie vanilla and one with all updates modern....or a game an a piece of a game to combine somehow. ...I'm guessing that has to do with the switches on the modern game or shortcut beta2 icon to click to run well.

I did not edit this because the last time I did i lost everything using preview .

Can anyone tell me how to use the post writing in this to be able to write where you can see or use margins and follow your writing...just a thought.

Lastly my display settings I checked nothing locked ...all is good

All I have done is install base/vanilla game and April 2015 update and I have one shortcut and I don't have a beta2 shortcut ...nor am I using sebee app yet.

you have the switches ..mine....uncle timo suggestions....and slitherine guys

I think what uncle timo is doing is right but ...i need the step by step ..to get it right.

I think you guys like tinkering with things in games and especially this dinasaur gem. Me....I just want to play them. Why didn't the makers of this game put in adjustable screen fixes and color etc. into the options /preferences section? I have seen other game makers improve the inner workings of a gem. I guess they want to keep it with a niche group. They know the ones who play this have the patience to tinker around it.

I'm out

HI David:
Sorry you're having so much trouble getting set up.

The autorun.exe is for launching the lobby for the game and isn't the game per se so don't point your shortcut to the autorun.exe, instead point it at the game executable ( War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe, in the root directory where you installed it ). So that your target should be something like this:

D:\Matrix Games\"War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition"\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -f-dd_sw-deepColor-fixedArt-SingleCpuOrders-archive-altFont-px1920-py1080-skipVideo

And when you install the patch the installer writes a new directory called "Beta2" that holds the updated game engine ready to go. So your second shortcut could be used to execute the updated game instead of the vanilla version. The target for the updated version should look something like this:

D:\Matrix Games\"War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition"\Beta2\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -f-dd_sw-deepColor-fixedArt-SingleCpuOrders-archive-altFont-px1920-py1080-skipVideo

Please notice that the only change is to include the new directory. Between the "exe" and the "-f" there needs to be a space.

So you'll end up with two shortcuts, one that starts the vanilla version and one that starts the updated version. I wish I had done that when I installed my setup.

Unfortunately, I've overwritten the original exe game engine so now I can only run the updated version. D'oh. The install program is on a CD and I now have a new computer that doesn't have a CD drive on it. D'oh.

I hope this helps.

If you have the CD, you can get the game download from the Matrix site by putting in the game Serial # from the CD.

Larry I understand what you are saying but what I really need is

to know exactly what to put into the target box and start in box and whether it is normal or maximum on the vanilla game and the same exact thing for the Seabee shortcut target slots and start in and normal or maximum for that one

I tried again these switches you recommended and again it says invalid path etc on both of these shortcuts. And no I did not use auto run I typed in the executable and then the info you wrote. and still it always says invalid path

Is this about using disc D ….that the game is set to C and rejects D?

Once again....I downloaded the base game into a file called Pacifik (sp to differentiate) and everything else into that same folder in disc D ...it is all there ...the vanilla game and the update for April 2015 and Seabee is in a file in Pacifik called C-bee and I put fullscreen and 1920x1080 …..what is going on …..over and over it says invalid path....what am I not seeing ….anyone know.? I'm following what the Slitherine guy tells me , what you tell me and still invalid path ...problem with shortcut....something on my computer ..a glitch that won't accept this....I don't get it. help please ...would be appreciated here. I have 2 shortcuts ...one base game vanilla and one Seabee ...Slitherine guy just wrote back to me and says it does not matter where you download the Seabee or game files ….so now I'm really confused ...about invalid path
