Resolution Problem

Post by woodtick1168 »

Vid card: Nvidia Geforce 1050ti with current drivers
Windows 8
Game will not start due to error message saying current system does not support my resolution.
It does not matter what resolution I put in I get the same message.
The game plays fine on my lap top.
Any suggestions?

Just an update: I downloaded the WAR in Europe and got the same message as soon as I hit the play button. I have 72 games on Steam and these are the only 2 with this problem.

Hi Woodtick1168,

This is a very odd error indeed. Could you tell me what is the default resolution of your screen?

If you navigate to the USER folder for the game, typically this path here (replacing <username> with your user name on your PC), could you tell me what the first 4 entries are?

C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\Strategic Command WWII - World at War

For example:

#ORIGINAL_SCREEN_WIDTH= 1920
#ORIGINAL_SCREEN_HEIGHT= 1200
#WINDOW_WIDTH= 1920
#WINDOW_HEIGHT= 1200

Hi Woodtick1168,

Thanks for the info and it looks like your BIT_DEPTH setting of 16 bits on your system is the likely culprit. Is there any chance you can increase the bit depth of your video card setting to 32 bits instead?

This link and instruction guide might help:

My setting on my desk top are at 32bits per my vid card settings but still no luck even after a reinstall. I am not sure why the game thinks my settings are at 16 bit. I can play the game on my lap top so all is not lost. Thanks for the help. Unless anyone has other things to try I will confine my play to the laptop and consider this closed.

Just found this in my windows system ini file. It is also referenced in another file in windows. I could find no reference to 32bit in any window files. Does this make sense??
I guess I was wrong about the issue is closed. I badly want to play this on my desk top monitor.

Could you try manually editing the entry in the SC3.ini file to see if that helps? It is very odd that your system is 32 bits but the initialization file for the game is at 16 bits.

Please try editing the following line from this:

#BIT_DEPTH= 16

To this:

#BIT_DEPTH= 32

Save the file, then relaunch the game to see if that helps?

Gave it a go: changed number to 32 and saved. The error message changed to say 32 Bit Depth required. Game will not launch. I really thought the change to 32 in SC3 file would work. Right now "I'm not sure where to go to give up?" Old 3d Marine saying when things weren't going well. You all have been great and I appreciate it.

Could you try sending me some more info?

How to get a DirectX Diagnostic file:

1. click on "START"
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

Please send to support@furysoftware.com, thanks

I can not send to Fury software support due to Microsoft sign in requirement that I can not seem to get through. I'm 72 and not very computer smart. I have the info but need some other way to get it to you. I assume it should not be pasted in the matrix forum.
