These are the guidelines on your avatar pic. If you are within these parms, you should be able to get the picture to display. You most likely have to playwith the size, shrinking your pic down to 145 x 145. Good luck.

Size: (145 X 145) Max. 750KB;
Supported file extensions: gif/txt/jpg/zip/rtf/doc/xls/sce/bfs/bfm

Isn't their a minimum number of posts you have to get in before you can post an avatar or pics?

The lower limit for pictures is 10 posts. I don't recall having to wait to post my avatar when I signed on, but I did have to resize it several times to get under the size limit.
