Unit experience

I was wondering if a unit ever gets to have more than 3 stars experience? I have a host of units with 3 stars, but I've yet to see one get to 4 or even 5. Is it possible?

The Afrika Korps tanks for example, have battered their way all through the Middle East and Persia and have reached Grozny, but they're still on 3 stars. Obviously reinforcements play a role, but that hasn't been required too often for the Korps.
