Steam Summer Sale

Post by AndySfromVA »

I've been waiting for this.

I bought Darkest Hour, Civil War II, Civil War II Bloody Road South and Commander, Great War. Great prices on these and other war and strategy games.

Well, I have experienced some difficulties with Steam lately. Some game pages appear as black at times and that's the worst of it. Oh, Aggressors: Ancient Rome is on sale too, and I bought it last week at full price, so there is that [8|]

I'm tempted to grab Distant Worlds Universe. I have the original DW but never upgraded for some reason. It's only $15. If Matrix matched that price I'd buy it here. Just sayin.... [;)]

Yeah, don´t not what the hell has happened, but I was getting the same issues yesterday (black screen on front store page), also blank desk game icons (some). Cleard cache and also replaced icons did the trick.

I was about to post the Aggressors sale but instead posted the Deity Empires sale which I did pick up, learning it now. Was about to pick up Wasteland 2 but picked Shadowrun Dragonfall insted as its cheaper.

Any how, maybe Matrix should do more sales and lower there older games too. Just saying...

I think most of us old users here pick Matrix anytime over ALL other vendors, but when you have most of the stuff you want from Matrix, and the littel left for you to pick is way to expensive for it´s age, you ither wait for a sale, or buy something else elsewhere. I don´t think there´s nothing wrong with that.

Steam has at least 1 strong point going for it: automatic updates for all the games. Some Matrix Games have update button, but not all of them, and manual updates are all over the site. Products and Members pages have had different version updates for the games, though there may have been a change as of late.

Does anyone know if Matrix will also offer similar sale prices on their site?

Suppose I want to wait until the latest update is proven reliable? Suppose my opponent does not want the latest update and mine updated automatically? I fail to see how that is a strong point at all, it's really a complete detriment, as is the rest of steam. We'd all be a lot better off without it, so I beg you steamer's to start weening yourself back to real life.

Mind you Iam not defending Steam at all, but you did forget something with your above statement...

When you Install a new Steam game, or even already Installed games, you can uncheck the "keep this game updated" tick box. Just so there´s no misunderstandings in that regard.

And I do agree that one should be able to choose if he/she wants there games updated or not.

Gonna grab Grand Theft Auto V, so I can play Harley Quinn Mod. Swinging her bat, pop some heads with her pop gun.

Saw some videos that someone made a mod for this as Harley Quinn, look really good and realistic.

So the reality is that Matrix does a poor job with updates, therefore making steam look artificially good.

Get with it Matrix! This button should work for all of your games, or else it should not be available. Otherwise, your customers get frustrated and end up dating third party skanks like steam!

With Steam, I think the options for updates on the games is system wide? I am going on memory and that's what I remember or it didn't allow prevention of updates within a specific game or something to that effect. Can someone check

Not system wide, but I just checked and there´s no option for you to hold on to a past version! If you click the pull down menu from the update tab (game specific), you wont find a option to hold-on to what ever version you may want, so yeah I stand corrected, and sorry for misleading, I always though you could do that, hence there being a option. Never tried it till now so quite surprised to be honest!

My bad, again sorry for that...

While many Matrix games have an update button, for some reason it almost never works for me. Kind of frustrating...

Its odd that Matrix doesn't pricematch, its not like we're talking about new games. Don't follow HPS down the obsolescence path.

My auto update of WIF has never worked.
Doesn't work now. After all these years.
