Land Warfare RTS Suggestions Please
I know there is a wealth of simulation/gaming experience here. If you know of another forum to which I can post my question, please let me know.
I’m looking for suggestions for an RTS simulation/game (parseable preferred) that models land warfare from all eras, or at least from WWI through present day.
I have CMANO and like the mechanics, although with a lot of units it can become something of a micromanagerial chore. It also only covers from ~1946 through present day.
TAOW IV covers the right timeframe but is a turn-based system. I like it, but sometimes it seems that I’m spending more time trying to manipulate my attacks to optimize the combat rounds mechanic as opposed to planning and leading my troops.
In my quest I also obtained Command Ops 2. I like the delegation mechanics very much, but it only covers WWII.
I also recently saw a mention about General Satff which looks promising, even if it won’t cover the timeframe I’m seeking (It also seems to still be quite some time from release).
All suggestions are appreciated.

RE: Land Warfare RTS Suggestions Please
The Close Combat series has some modern elements you might wish to look into.
Otherwise, it is hard to beat the polish of the Combat Mission designs if looking for modern real time.
There are some other designs here at Matrix that are both modern and I think real time, but I have no experience of those.

Wargame, 05% of the time.
Play with Barbies 05% of the time.
Play with Legos 10% of the time.
Build models 20% of the time
Shopping 60% of the time.
Exlains why I buy em more than I play em.

DCS, Combined Arms module is getting very interesting in the past updates...

Love these guys videos!
Gonna have to try that out as I have this module. You can play from that map view as the TF CMDR, or jump in to each unit, all though the warships will only fallow waypoints and combat orders, no inside views like the land or air units.

I bought DCS Combined Arms on discount to play strictly as a land wargame, but without other modules it didn't quite click as a standalone game obviously. This was about 1.5 years ago, so not sure how much it improved as a solo module.
I would consider Close Combat Modern Tactics during a sale. You don't get a campaign, but a wide variety of units and maps. Is actually my favorite CC. Combat Mission Black Sea is among the best, and well worth the price. The equipment database is also quite high-tech compared to say CM Shock Force II.

I understand...
If you get the "Flaming Cliffs 3" module, then you have quite alot of other aircraft (besides the default) to tinker with. But yeah I understand your issue. One of the best things of DCS is it´s editor, create your own mission, that´s the key.
Combat Mission Black Sea is great! With Close Combat I have issues seeing Infantry, worn eye sight me has...
RE: Land Warfare RTS Suggestions Please
Easy question.
Graviteam Tactics Muis Front and all its WW2 dlc. No doubt about it.

If you really want to get "hardcore", just buy Steel Beast Pro PE, it´s getting a terrain engine (among other things) update (v4.1) next month (July).
A recent showcase video:

Home site:
https://www.esimgames.com/
You can get a 1 month license to try it out (would wait for v4.1 to come out in July), for about $10. Then you can decided if you want a lifetime license or other.
IMHO it´s the best land based sim out there. Graphics might look outdated but gameplay is awesome! Has a very good AI.

Armoured Brigade recently released
RE: Land Warfare RTS Suggestions Please
Thank you all for the suggestions.
I know I'm asking for a lot, maybe even the equivalent of the Holy Grail but, none of the suggestions really hit on all the points I was looking for. You all made great suggestions for modern combat, as well as WW2 games, but none look like they would go all the way back to WW1.
I suppose the question needs to be: IS THERE a real-time (pause-able) strategy game that covers from WWI through present day? Do I need to be happy to split things between WWI, WWII and present day?

RE: Land Warfare RTS Suggestions Please
That's a great suggestion. Every "wargamer" needs to try SR at least once. Just don't pay full price, unless money is nothing to you.
I am finished with the series as it tends to develop into a game of lassoing hundreds of (interesting) units like a C&C mish-mash battle. It's a grand strategic game that teases you to play at the operational, and even tactical, level but it can't do it all.

RE: Land Warfare RTS Suggestions Please
But I have to admit hat Supreme Ruler only realy shines in the cold war or especially modern days campaigns (if you can manage the complexity and the "not that good" interface).
The WW1 and WW2 settings arent that well executed and balanced.
But as the OP had asked you can even play from 1913 to 2099 (while I prefer a start in 2017 or 2020).

RE: Land Warfare RTS Suggestions Please
It doesn't exist. To wide a range of features and mechanics needed to cover all eras.
The Hearts of Iron game that came from a mod The Darkest Hour is probably closest you'll get.

You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

Empire Earth
There is also a similar game called Rise of Nations which I would suggest. Extend edition has quite good mods support.
RE: Land Warfare RTS Suggestions Please
The Decisive Campaign game engine (DCX Project), has some WW-1 scenarios/campaign, which means one can do his/hers own, so that may be one of interest...
