If I know ASL

Post by Essro »

So, I know how to play ASL (not expertly mind you, but I know the rules well enough). Would I be able to play this without learning curve?

Also, I saw some ASL graphic mods. Nice, but are the values the same?

It's a simpler version of ASL so you shouldn't have any problem playing with what you know right now. If anything,
you will have to unlearn some things because TotH is not ASL but is heavily inspired by ASL meaning there are differences.
Some examples would be not being able to use infantry smoke, squads can only carry one SW, no armor leaders, no multi-
story buildings, no multi-hex fire groups, etc. I've only played SL in the past and that was more than enough to get
started. [:)]

Okay, I took the plunge and bought it.

Ideal game for someone who was once, or still into, ASL. Very easy.

But...where in the world is the unit or weapon data? Range, armor rating, etc?

thanks Rico

I've installed the ASL mod on the understanding that the values shown on counters is accurate.

Same for armor?

note: got my butt kicked by the AI (lost 3-4 MkIII/MkII) because I guess I underestimated how dangerous BA-65s were.

Essro that's a good question. I just assumed the values on armor counters matched TotH but I don't remember ever seeing an armor counter with values shown with its corresponding TotH counterpart.
I can tell you from experience that TotH armor seems to be the equivalent with the ASL counters with values. I think not having values as in TotH is more realistic but giving up numbers is a
hard pill to swallow after many years of playing with cardboard.

ASL3D's mods are well done and they appeal to me greatly. By the way, whatever happened to ASL3D?[&:]
