3.0.2.1. German and Turkish Units in Persia Able to Trace Supply to Turkish City

Post by rkr1958 »

This can't be right, can it?

By the way, there are numerous phases where MWiF puts these units out of supply and numerous phases where it puts them back in supply. MWiF is apparently conflicted on whether or not these units are suppose to be in supply.

See what I mean. MWiF now puts them out of supply. All I did was to shut MWiF down, re-start it and re-load the game turn.

No, that is not right. Teheran is a secondary supply source for the Germans, and has to trace back to a primary source of supply for it to function.

Or a basic path to another secondary and that one a basic path to another secondary, etc. Only the last secondary in a chain of one or more secondaries has to trace to a primary. In the example above, all the units can trace to the Turkish HQ except the MIL in Teheran which is in its own primary.

The German and Turkish units in Persia are only in supply, if there is an Axis convoy point in the Black Sea. The Turkish HQ can trace back into Turkey along the railline. After that it uses 3 hexes to the port of Trabzon and one for overseas towards Istanbul (or the German units back to Germany).

So they should be considered to be out of supply in this gamesave, since there isn't a convoy point in the Black Sea. If MWIF states those units to be in supply, that's a bug.

But the Turkish HQ can't trace back to a primary. I think it can trace a supply line all the way to adjacent to Erzurum, but Erzurum is US owned, and there aren't any Axis owned rail lines within four hexes.

Looking at the map, a new Russian unit means that the Axis supply line has to jump two hexes over non-rail to even get that far.

My take on this is that the Axis supply hadn't been updated when the first screen shot was taken.

MWIF tries to avoid recalculating supply every time a unit is moved (or something else related to supply lines changes). There are a lot of tests to see if something has changed, but it misses some of them (I think). When it does the status indicators on the units can be out-of-date.

You can usually force the program to recalculate supply by moving an HQ, and then undoing its move.

Saving and restoring the game has the same effect of forcing the program to (re)calculate supply.
