Note a player can convert many types of ships to APA if they want more.

Thanks for the follow-up El Cid.

In related stuff, the other week I got to thinking that it has been a long time since Gary Grigsby and 2by3 released the original War in the Pacific; 22 June 2004 to be exact.

Fifteen years is a long time for someone as prolific a programmer as Gary is to let a subject lay idle... just wondering if he might show renewed interest in the Pacific war.

Of course my prayers for Sid Meier to take another (better) whack at a true Railroad Tycoon successor have gone unanswered, but hope springs eternal, right?

Given that Grigsby has went WITP, WITE, and then WITW, we're due a WITP 2.

Gary has said he'd never attempt it again. It was enough this last time. So there will not be another WitP from Gary at least. As to enhancements?????[:)]

Yes! I would pay for an update, no ifs, ands or buts.

Have you ever played a game through the end of 1945?

I am at December 12th, 1945 in my current game and I have more APAs than I know what to do with.

I'm using some for regular transport.

The Americans don't need more APAs.

Unless they are very careless with them.

Good point Bill. but in my estimation it is wrong to tailor game design to compensate for or reward poor game play.

It isn't a question of "need" or tailoring the game; the ships were there historically. They're notable units, not the xAPc's some people have modeled.

Some people want a balanced game. Some want as much historical accuracy as possible. If more USN APA's aren't necessary then they don't unbalance the game, and they do improve the historical accuracy.

Rats!

Playing devil's advocate for a minute... what about a new War in the Atlantic game? Slightly smaller scale map-wise. Not sure if it has ever been given the strategic treatment at the level of WITP.

That would be a game I could see myself spending a chunk of change on for sure.

War In The Mediterranean would be even more interesting, as combined ops were important there.

Conditionally, yes. That would be dependent on the changes. Just maps, probably not.

I do like the idea of a Kickstarter.

I agree.

Also with a caveat: that the changes suggested to gameplay (not maps and artwork) not break existing gameplay. To ensure this, much testing and verification of stand-alone functionality will have to be performed before I'd agree to pay for it.

Yes. This would be an excellent port for the WiTP:AE engine.

It was moved from a sub-forum for greater visibility.

Hyper links would be a god send. The real question is are you willing to pay $120 for a new game with a new engine. Most of us would.
