Certainly an interesting conundrum. But one would have to question why one would be so keen to learn phrases that pertain to the American War of Independence after the US has just lost her independence to the Germans? I would have thought concentrating the mind on how to break free of the German yoke (don't worry, no more eggscruciating egg puns from me) would be a more sensible use of time then ensuring sundry references to tea, tea parties, sipping tea, dropping tea into rivers, mad king, taxation without representation etc. are translated perfectly into the US' new mother tongue. I think it could safely be argued you would be concentrating on the wrong issue [:)]

The Japanese did not consider invasion because of the people having their hunting weapons along with their other weapons for target practice and such. The Germans would have been in a similar situation except that the population density would be higher. So no need to break any yoke unless it is self imposed.

Well done on freeing yourselves from the yoke of a monarchy. It's a shame the British never did the same. We are still stuck with them.

'The yoke of the monarchy'? Well don't think omlettin' that slide. The British did get rid of the monarchy and eggsactly how did that turn out? The alternative was not all it was cracked up to be was it? Cromwell presided over a country where one could be executed for poaching. Even getting laid was frowned upon in his puritanical state. Daily beatings were common and Frydays were set aside as a special punishment days - no wonder so many people scrambled to leave the country. At least Charles I wasn't chicken and he went to his death with dignity.

Anyway, I'm eggnoring such buffoonery. God Save The Queen! God bless her - oh and Happy Birthday America.

One thing about a monarchy, you should have continuity at the head of state position. Some are good, some are bad, but it does not have to be absolute nor a figurehead position to have a good continuity.

That said, the "Yellow Ribbon around the Old Oak Tree" comes from the Puritans. It is a symbol of purity. Unlike when a sailor came back from a nine month cruise and had not seen his wife in the meantime. She showed up at the dock with one in the oven, at the six month stage.
