Special abilities like Anti-Air

Post by Justus2 »

Is it possible to mod a unit to include special abilities (like the Intercept range for Anti-Air, or Defensive Bombardment for artillery) on a different unit type? When I look at the Combat Target Data in the editor, I see the Intercept field available for an Anti-Air unit, but it's greyed out in other unit types (except fighters). Same with Strike Range for Artillery (which I assume enables the defensive fire ability).
Does that mean these abilities are hard-coded to those specific units? I was looking at designing an Anti-Air light cruiser (CLAA) for example, using a standard CL but with the Intercept range set so it can cover nearby capital ships. Is there another screen that allows me to edit the Target Type of a unit?

Hi

I'm afraid that the unit abilities like this are hardcoded.

However, and I don't know if this would work, but one of the Carrier slots could be used to trial a CLAA, whereby it is only allowed to Intercept, with a range set accordingly, and it would have to be set to evade 100% of losses when it attacks.

This is purely off the top of my head so it may not work, but it's the only potential way this could be implemented currently.

Though even if it works functionally, it may not look right in action (e.g. interceptor sounds rather than AA fire).

If you do give it a try let us know how you get on.
