China and Burma. We have several infantry brigades and an armored brigade crossing the river to the SE of Kalemyo. The 2nd British Division, already in-hex, will assault in support when the crossing occurs.

We have a Bde at Warazup, moving on Myitkyina. Another Bde is following and will hold Warazup as the first Bde exits that place. After Myitkyina is invested our forces NE of Katha will begin assaulting the lone Imperial unit there. We have two Chinese Army infantry units and 3 Allied armored units on scene, which should be enough to push back the Imperial Bde/Rgt. When that unit is retreated it will move off-road into the jungle (because Myitkyina will be contested), opening the road to Myitkyina for our armored forces.

Shortly after the two battles just outlined, we should defeat/retreat the enemy Rgt/Bde just SE of Kalemyo, opening a route on the the plain for our forces. We will be able to threaten Shwebo and threaten cutting off or at least impeding the Imperial units just west of Katha. If those units do not retreat, we will be able to block supply movement along the road, forcing them to rely on LOC through the jungle.

• More enemy armor is seen moving through Toungoo, a unit with about 54 AFV. Our B-24D and B-24D1, which have adequate range, will hit them from 5,000 ft tomorrow counting on a surprise appearance to avoid much fighter or flak presence. That strike might also serve to spread out Imperial air defenses.

These units are moving SE to cross the river out of Kalemyo to where the 2nd British Division is already in place. They will face about a regiment and should dislodge it handily. After which one Bde will move east to seal the hex side (see map) while the others move SE to block the road.

Fortifications were reduced again today at Chungking. Still, with today's result in mind are we going to hold on longer in China than I previously thought?

India, Burma, Thailand, Indochina
• No enemy sub activity detected.

• There are two tank regiments at Toungoo, and our 4EB attacked both of them without inflicting losses.

• 21 miles toward crossing the river SE of Kalemyo. Possibly tomorrow our troops will arrive at Myitkyina, and possibly in 3 days our forces just NE of Katha will be ready to assault the Imperial Rgt/Bde at that location. Our next assault at Akyab is tomorrow.

• The Vildebeest III's and the Beaufort I's have moved forward to Chittagong and the Catalina I's there have switched to night search to spot for them.

The date for the USN fleet carrier DB squadrons reorganization is coming up. I put all those DB Sqns ashore at PH and this turn I tried to disband the ones that withdraw into their counterparts which they merge into. I got a message about disbanding carrier squadrons not allowed.

The problem is once the remaining squadrons resize from 18 to 36 will take two cycles because of the 12 planes per 7 days limit. What is the correct procedure to use?

Not sure, but I think if you leave them on the carrier they can do the resize and might be able to get all the planes in one turn this one time. Rather than go to the pools they might transfer directly squadron to squadron before the withdrawing/disbanding squadron disappears.

It's been a long time - even in terms of software releases - since I had a game where I left the groups on the carriers and tried that. I was stuck pulling in pilots and adding planes (limited to 12 per week). The groups resized fine but did not take in the corresponding groups' planes and pilots.

I'm hoping someone who has gone through this recently (at least in terms of the recent software releases) sees this and can comment.

So what actually happened is all but one of the squadron pairs auto-disbanded-merged. The pair which did not are the squadrons on Wasp and they are the only ones numbered differently.

INVADED
Akyab, Myitkyina, Paoshan, Urumchi, Tsuyung, Chungking are invested.

CHANGED OWNERSHIP

Overall
• No carrier sightings.

• A few USN carrier DB Sqn aircraft need to come ready at Pearl Harbor before they can follow their squadrons back to the carriers. With Wasp having less capacity than the other USN carriers the 12 x DB allowed to add to that combined squadron will be enough as I have added 2 x TB to bring Wasp up to full capacity: 36 x F, 30 x DB, 10 x TB.

• We had an influx of Indian '43 Squads, probably from convoys, and now we can upgrade regiments and brigades (and break down divisions for upgrade). We have 2 divisions and 2 brigades already in Burma so we will have to contrive ways to get them upgraded. We've been trying to upgrade to Chinese '43 squads at Katha without success so it might be a while.
