S. Sakai with 5 kills

Post by ADM Togo »

Just started playing as the Americans and saw S. Sakai rack up 5 kills after a month of game time. All other pilots I saw so far very few topped out at 3 kills and maybe one with 4 kills.

What's the highest kills you seen by pilots of either side in the game and how long did it take them to get there?

S. Sakai -5 kills - 1 month game time:eek:

I'm not sure of the highest totals but I regularly have a couple of pilots per game reach 6 kills before they are KIA or WIA. I've noticed that pilots sometimes "get in the zone" and shoot down 4 or 5 planes in a single engagement, usually consecutively.

I've also noticed that often its the lead plane that's the toughest. Once you shoot down the first of say, 40 planes, you'll often get 3 or 4 more in quick succession. If you can't make some of the fighters to break off, then they often won't lose any in air-to-air (although they still may suffer Op losses).

Yes I've seen the pilots "get in the zone" and get 2-3 kills. I wonder if pilots can achieved the 30-40 kill mark.

Hi all,

In my last PBEM that was finished (my worthy opponent surrendered in bad
situation) my leader in kills was Saburo Sakai as well... :-)

The time was 12.24.1942 (Christmas) and he had 9 kills by that time.

I also had many other highly skilled pilots with 4-5-6-7 kills.

Nishizawa

Post by Christof »

Hi all,

in an ongoing PBEM game, Nishizawa of F1 Tainan Daitai came up with 10 kills in one day. Two sweep missions over Cairns. He has 12 kills now. His squad has 100. One of the reasons might be that my opponent thought it was a good idea to give his Wirraway squadrons some CAP duty... :-)

Sadly enough I lost S.Sakai that day in an operational accident. He is listed as MIA.

Has anybody seen MIA pilots return?

I never got lucky with Sakai and always lost that guy pretty early in the game.

Cheers,
Christof

I've got it in my head that MIA pilots either return to duty, or become KIA after about 2 months. I can't confirm that, I just think I read it somewhere.

You'll also see an Allied squadron rack up kills quickly if one of the cruisers with a slew of search planes comes within close proximity (consider the Tone w/ TF sails around the horn at Gili-Gili where a CAP squadron is stationed there). Was delightful fun seeing the message that my my P40 squadron racking up about 6 kills. I figured out afterwards, it must have been the Tone because the next day there were a bunch of seaplanes listed on the kill report.

pilot kills

Post by petdoc »

In one of my PBEM games I have a pilot that racked up 9 kills before the end of June '43. He is based out of PM and my opponent has been very aggressive about continually attacking PM since the game started. It has actually been to my advantage as my losses have been tolerable but my pilots are really getting lots of practice.

I find that when a pilot reaches 8 kills they usually don't have long to live.
There is a saying among my pilots "Reach 8 kills and go home in a box'.
As a result most of my 7 kill pilots refuse to attack enemy planes...they loiter on the fringes of battles trying to look busy. :)

I've had a P38 pilot who had ended up with 14 kills. He had I think 2 or 3 when he was flying P39's out of PM.

Whilst flying the P39's he gained a lot of EXP, and therefore when his squadron was updated to P38's.. he became a bit of a mennace, and chewed through Zeros...

My best Japanese pilot was a WO with 12 planes shot down (Sept/42). I was really sorry, when the guy was killed.
