Untried Units, whats the score?

Korsun Pocket is a the second game using the award winning SSG Decisive Battles game engine. Korsun Pocket recreates the desperate German attempt to escape encirclement on the Russian Front early in 1944. The battle is a tense and exciting struggle, with neither side having a decisive advantage, as the Russians struggle to form the pocket, then try to resist successive German rescue efforts and last ditch attempts at breakout.

Untried Units, whats the score?

Post by Pawlock »

Just a general question here on peoples views on this option. personally have not tried it yet, but am tempted if start another pbem game.

Does it alter play balance a lot? the manual talks in terms of combat strengths being altered. Does this mean bigger/lesser step values? and if so are we talking perhaps just 1 step increases/decreases or more?

Whats your experiences with it?

One good thing I can see straight away is the fact it can be used as something else to blame if you get slaughtered :D

Ive played around with it a bit.. units attack and defense values are randomly picked between certain perameters.. for example 1SS is never going to be a weak division.. but you wont know for sure how strong the units in it will be. The steps are not random as far as I know and are unchanged.. its just the attack and defense values.

You wont know what the strengths of your units will be until they are incontact with the enemy - this includes your own units.. so for example, in TAO, when 4th ARM arrives.. their attack and defense strengths will be shown as ? until they engage the enemy..

In the editor, you specify what the unknown values - or random values will be between for the units.

The option was included to add to the replay value, along with random weather settings etc..
Isn't that bizarre?
