Seriel number issue

Post by Cfant »

Hi!

I have the matrix-site version of TOAW IV. Sadly it says, there is an issue with the serial number. I can start when I start as admin, then it works fine. Problem is: On the fast computer, where I may play, I have no admin-permission.

What can I do?

Greetings!

Well, probably this is something you need to contact support about, as they are the only ones who can deal with licenses.

However there are a couple things you could check.

The game stores the serial number two places I know of:
1. In a file "serialreg.txt" in the game install folder, usually "c:\Program Files (x86)\The Operational Art of War IV"
2. In the Windows Registry under the key "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Matrix Games\The Operational Art of War IV"

Check if these exist. The issue could be caused by your user not having read permission on either of these.

You could also try to reinstall the game. You should not need to be admin to play the game.

The installer will request elevated privilege through UAC when run, so you need a user that is allowed to do that. Some people will tell you to run the installer as admin by choosing "Run as Administrator" - but this is wrong, and could cause the issue you're having.
