naval invasion question

Post by slo »

hello all.
I am trying to do my first naval invasion. There is a garrisoned unit near the port that I want so it wont let me even attempt to attack the port? So the only way I can invade is to first bomb that unit until it doesn't exists?
not sure what i am doing wrong. Yes I am using the invasion transport, not the regular transport so i thought that would allow me to attack the port....any advice?

thanks

You can attack the unit if it is next to the shore and invade next to it. You cannot land in a port at all IIRC.

really, you cant land in a port!! interesting,
so I cant bomb a unit in a port as I only do damage to the port, so what is my strategy for doing a naval invasion?

thanks for the help...

You can use both bombers and shore bombardment from naval units to soften up targets of an invasion. Even if you don't inflict strength losses, you can impact readiness and morale of the defenders.

If you capture the urban resource connected to the port, then providing the port doesn't have an enemy unit in it, then the port will also become yours.

If you capture the urban resource and an enemy unit remains in port, attack it with your unit in the urban resource and it will soon either leave the port or cease to exist, and then the port will be yours. [:)]
