Turn Length

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Turn Length

When exactly did the turn lengths change?

Manual says Spring & Fall are 11 days and Winter is 21 days

Currently Spring & Fall is 14 and winter 30(maybe 29,31)

Was that in the update notes?

I'd like to hear the rational for that change, the ramificarions are stunning.

Thanks for catching this and we'll correct this for the next update. Looks like this was missed in our massive overhaul from v1.15 to v1.16 (a lot of data was reset to default values, this being one of them, in the update which required manual correction) and is only being caught now.

A lot of other things too:
Shortened recovery from Barbarossa time for Russia.
Weaker USA at war entry (and possibly delayed Entry due to fewer turns).
Less phony war build up time for all sides (Also more time for plowing through Maginot if that strategy picked).

I'll be posting a detailed research analysis and summary shortly, and this might provide further insight. In terms of turn lengths, it currently works out to about 3 less turns per full year per side, and it could explain a few items such as a weaker US, but as mentioned, there will be other research points I'll detail that are likely considerations as well.

For Barbarossa, this could be a wash as the Germans are less likely to advance further into the USSR due to less turns, i.e. Soviet Winter and the winter months potentially arrive sooner, and for the Maginot strategy, it would likely be more optimal after the next build with the extra turns added back in if we don't apply other adjustments in this area. Thankfully we will be, so ideally the strategy will be with more risk when entertained after the next update.

Hubert,

Is that 3 extra raw turns per year, or 3 extra turns for each side?

For observation and argument's sake:
Lets presume it's 3 turns per side.
Those 3 turns per year normally equate to 1 Spring turn, 1 Fall turn and 1 Winter turn.

Barbarossa is most likely going to start in the Summer. There is the possibility of it starting late Spring if the situation (strategy & weather) is just right but let's assume a significant majority start in the summer.

That makes 1 extra Fall turn and 1 extra Winter turn. The extra Winter turn helps Russia. Who the extra Fall turn helps depends on the weather. An extra good weather Axis turn, or an extra bad weather Axis turn? I'm not 100% sure how the weather random rolls work, and imperical evidence suggests that the deeper into Fall the more likely bad weather (though I could be wrong). So if that extra Axis Fall turn is 25% good 50% mediocre (say raining but no mud or mud and no rain) and 25% bad (mud and snow or rain), odds say it is a wash 25%, and favors Russia 75% (slightly 50%, more so 25%).

There's also consideration that southern Russia is in different weather zone (more likely nice) than Northern/Central Russia (more likely bad).

Don't have too much of a point, I think it is more likely to help Russia post Barb, but maybe by not as much as I thought.

Yes it will be going back to 11, 7, 11, 21 as it never should have been changed.

Also to clarify, right now there are 3 less turns per side, just meaning that v1.16 has 3 less turns per side than the previous builds... either way this will be corrected.
