RE: Possible Tech Bug

Post by Hubert Cater »

I'm guessing you've missed my post #15 above?

The answer is still the same, the Western Allies don't share with the USSR, so there is no catch up bonus applied from the Western Allies having a higher tech level in this category relative to the USSR. This can be confirmed in the Editor settings for the campaigns as well, under Edit Country Data->Research->Advanced and then looking at the 'Sharing' settings.

Thus in this case, 'C' (from your immediate post above) is not applicable and 3% would then be correct.

On that note however, could you point us to where in the Manual this indicates otherwise so we can amend this as needed? Thanks!

I've just taken a quick look in the Manual and found this on page 98 which on first glance seems to be correct (relevant section bolded):

9.2.4. Research Sharing
Friendly Major powers that are politically closely
aligned can help each other through sharing their
research. For instance, the UK’s research can
benefit the USA, and vice versa, but not the USSR.

The full list of relationships is as follows:
- UK shares with France, Poland and the USA.
- France shares with the UK, USA and Poland.
- The USA shares with the UK and France.
- The USSR shares with no one.
- Poland shares with the UK and France.
- Germany and Italy both share with each other.

If there is another section that is not as clear, please do let us know so we can clarify as needed.

Post 15 is not clear to me at all, and is confusing because it seems to mix catch up and sharing.

Regardless, I offer my apologies. Somehow I got the idea that the USSR sharing was simply one directional (in but not out), and not rather completely cut off.

Based on the above, I think that the enemy spying & intelligence (which I know Germany is level 3) is not acting properly and instead of only negating the bonus 3% that USA would receive from UK's level 3 spying & intelligence it is ALSO cancelling out my 3% advance per turn entirely. Which to my understanding is a bug.

There is indeed an issue here with this specific example and it will be corrected for the next build. I'll have a Research write up clarifying things as well as highlighting any current issues that will be corrected for the next build.

Once I sort this all out on my end I'll likely post to the main forum.

I'm guessing you are referring to my response to Crispy which is post #16? The post numbers appear at the bottom of each post, and #15 was my direct response to your very first post in the thread where I similarly explain that the USSR does not share with the Western Allies.

That being said I'll edit and clarify my response to Crispy as I can see how that might be confusing.

I've just edited post #16 which is my post response to Crispy regarding his concerns for Spying and Intelligence, let me know if this is a bit more clear.

Yes, that clears it up. I must have originally missed post 15.

I don't want to side track here;
But I think all these Tech concerns are really just the tip of ice berg regarding the changes to the number of days in the Spring/Fall/Winter turns (as noticed by Etzel) Though I haven't confirmed it. It would explain a whole lot regarding the Tech feeling behind, and USSR recovery feeling shorten and why the USA appears so much weaker at entry than in the past. I want to confirm this is happening and recheck the version notes.
