Brest-Litovsk gap.

Post by Uxbridge »

Sudden, mostly unplanned-for situation in November, 1943, with the city of Brest-Litovsk suddenly in the limelight. If Adolph Itler (AI) continue to attack eastwards now, someone must have a serious talk with him. :-)

Having seen the Axis AI in Russia in my current Japan game, I fear that "Adolf Itler" will in fact not see the danger.

Apparantly, he didn't find his glases. [:)]

(I was unsure whether this or the AAR-forum was the best choice for the post, but since this isn't a proper AAR ...).

You are expecting way too much of an "AI"

I know. And, in fact, the entire situation came about after some almost buggy trigger I wasn't aware of. In order to stir a bit of annoyance, I landed the Soviet airborne unit around the Ploesti oil fields. Didn't think much about it; taking out the massive oil fields for a number of turns seemed to off-set the loss of the unit. But for a few turns nothing happened, the paras having a well-served holiday. Then suddenly Romania surrendered due to a coup. Suppose it was the "Russians are drawing near-script" kicking in. Since neither me nor mr AI was prepared for this, nevertheless, it created a very interesting situation, with both sides rushing units piecemeal there to gain the upper hand.

This game is funny.

Romania surrendered because of a lone para taking the Ploesti oilfields? That event needs some work it seems ...

If this was the case, but I can't see any other explanation.

Yes, now that I told everyone about it, it will get exploited. Maybe the script should be changed to several units and at least 3-4 hexes presently occupied by them.

Hi

I've just checked the scripts and Romania can only switch sides if there are 2 Soviet units within 3 hexes of Bucharest.

I presume this is what happened, and therefore there must have been another Soviet unit nearby?

It can also only happen if there are no German units within 2 hexes of Bucharest, so keep a German unit there and Romania will not fold unless its capital is captured.

But does the Axis AI heed this advice too, i.e does IT try and keep a German unit there?

No, not purposefully due to the DECISION event, but it might if it has units to spare and it feels like Bucharest is threatened and it can afford to help support the area there.
