Rice paddy tile?
Is this included in incoming patch?
You don't need to make the property of rice paddy as season dependent. It would be great if it is possible, but it is OK if it is not.

RE: Rice paddy tile?
Unfortunately, not in this patch. Maybe we will will squeeze it in time for Steam release, but I am not promising anything yet.
p.s. thanks for the reminder!

What does a rice paddy look like from the top? I mean, what *should* it look like?

RE: Rice paddy tile?
I would say similar to one of the existing field tiles - but a bit lighter, with hints of water underneath. The other key features are 1) neat rows; 2) berms surrounding the paddy.

RE: Rice paddy tile?
I have some ideas, but really need some guidance on what these should look like, maybe different season types?
Just some early quick ideas:

I like the first one, maybe with a little more hint of water underneath. Not sure about a seasonal look.

How I missed this? This is awesome graphic work.ORIGINAL: Issue8

I also like the first and second. It seems second one looks more greenish, so in that sense 2nd one looks good too. Regarding paddy, I wrote about this long ago.

In winter, after harvest, paddy field dries up and become the normal soil. But when it is watered, typically from May to August or September, this should be something worse than road or hard ground but better than fully developed mud of bog, in terms of maneuverability. This is usual for Korea, Japan and Northern China, but I'm not sure about Vietnam as Vietnam's rainy season and dry season is different from far east nations.
If seasonal variation of tile property is not possible, than it would be great to make paddy tile "frozen" during winter, just like water tiles.
Unfortunately, as far as I know it is not possible to create a new tile type. I think it might be possible to change graphics of existing tile, but not anymore from there.ORIGINAL: CSO_Talorgan

Most field types in the game are covered and hidden by snow on winter maps.
Perhaps the 'ground condition' scenario option should control the rice paddy type? For example, the worst conditions make these fields 'wet' and the best conditions make them 'dry'?

Well, if we go realistic then paddy file should have seasonal property regardless of weather condition. It is wet during watered time frame (May~September) and dry during other time frame, at least for far east countries (Korea, Japan, northern China) If paddy is watered, it is watered for all time during time frame, not just during rainy weather. So, I think paddy tile should have some basic property of mobility regardless of ground condition. (I guess ground condition is the assumption of the weather effect, right?)
But if such seasonally-variable-property-tile is not possible, then just make a tile with moderate mobility value, somewhere between bog/swamp tile and road tile, assuming that the paddy is watered for all time and all season (of course assumption is wrong but this is closest assumption we can get).
Paddy tile is muddy tile but based on fairly firm bottom, so tracked vehicle should be able to operate and maneuver with minor~moderate penalty. Korean war example already proved this with even lighter vehicles then cold war. Check my old posts of https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.a ... ey=
So, based on wet paddy assumption, paddy tile mobility value should be better then bog/swamp, but worse than road/field. But in winter, make it frozen so that the tile have full traction. I think 50 mobility would be a good choice for wet paddy.
Then, like your opinion, ground condition set by player would influence on additional effect on paddy tile to become worse or to become better.
But the best solution is seasonally-variable-property-tile I think. But if such thing takes too much time then don't too much bothered with it. Assumption should be OKish to enjoy.
RE: Rice paddy tile?
If we'll go with a single type of paddy field, which of the above example textures should we use? I think the first one has got most up-votes so far.

RE: Rice paddy tile?
- "Rice field".
- Trafficability 60 for infantry and 50 for vehicles. This is exactly between the "Field" and "Bog" terrain types.
- Converts to plain ground on winter maps and plowed fields on spring maps.
- Block the LOS similar to the "Field" terrain type.
- Terrain fires don't start in them under normal conditions (similar to "Bog").
- The terrain palette color is 255,64,0 or #ff4000.
- The map editor hotkey is Ctrl+E.
