Raining Death

Having graduated from the Lightning, my business manager needed a Light Titan. Being GM centered, I needed a good GM Titan. Not impressed with the Whip or Vulcanoid, I built my own.

Originally designed with 2 GMH 4's, I had to scrap that idea quickly. Space limitations meant I could only mount 1 slot of ammo, which was more limiting then I first thought. (its first battle, it got in a long range battle with a Pike. Needless to say, it won, handily. However, it ran slam out of ammo, leaving it to have to run down to the battle and punch and kick to help out with the rest of the battle. Not optimal, at all.)

4 GMH 2's, while increasing the heat load, means 16 reloads instead of 10. Plus, four chances to hit, not two.

Recently, I redesigned it with jump jets, for that critical get up on top of the tall hill phase.

(Second battle, a Banzai closed range because of the 30 seconds it was taking per hex to climb a hill. Despite sporadic help from a squadmate, punching and kicking a Banzai to death was not easy, and it got its butt thoroughly womped, and was too distracted to help much of the battle. Still, two salvo's at a wounded Ghost left it on the ground, missing a torso and leg....)

I am using this thing as my squad's first serious use of long range support. (squad being, aforehand, mainly cc, with a few short/medium rangers backing them up.) I am generally pleased with its performance, and am looking eagerly ahead to its larger brethren, the Tentakul.

Personally I'd kinda want an ECM, but it's not that important. Also just to be nitpicky I wouldn't put Titanium on the CBT, 16 dp of Vicenium is plenty and might let you put an armor point somewhere more critical. I'll add it in, anyway.

yeah, I'm still getting this armor thing down.

ECM would be nice, but adding it in would be tricky. It would add another power point, and the engine is already fairly overloaded anyway.

You definitely could not move and run the ECM.

(Scanner, 1, Heat Reg 1, ECM would be another 1, and movement up to three...)

If I redesign this into a Medium Titan, it'll definitely get a bigger engine, ECM, and probably a Shield.
As a side note, you could probably swap the Jump Jets for ECM, but again, you'd be unable to run and have the ECM going.

It's getting harder to find things to nitpick about :) Other then the Titanium on the CBT, the only thing I can come up with is, probably one of the harder choices you have to make, hard because you have to make an educated guess ahead of time and if you need to change it later you have to start from scratch. Try a L1 chassis instead of the L2, it SHOULD all fit if you move the engine to the CT and use Duralloy on the LoT. This will give you a little extra wieght and a +5% handling mod, but increase BMT by 1 (not a biggie, especially for support titans)

Just wondering how many jocks in your squad? At lower levels/wieghts I wouldn't dedicate a purely LR support without 4. If 3 or less I'd go with a mix of ranges (the Poltergiest, two GMH2 and 3 GME racks, I designed was for a 3 jock team although I did bring a 4th in). Airdrops or really bad terrian can ruin your day if the rest of the team can't cover for you in a bad situation.
Power does not corrupt; It merely attracts the corruptable.

I run 4, more or less exclusively.
cc, cannon
cc, energy, guided
cc, energy, unguided
cc, energy, cannon

leader, business manager, mechanic, and cyborg

usually,
swift death
lightning
fireball
guru, or pulseray (modified stingray to carry dual pulse lasers)

currently, still fighting my way out of the 1st campaign (for the nth time)
Apparition (bought before I created my Driller)
Raining Death
Imp
Pulseray (she is due to be upgraded to my Ray Gun, 2 Pulse Lasers, 2 Heavy Meson Guns as soon as she can afford it.)

given another fight or three, I'll have to make a hard decision. my leader has been a dedicated cc Jock. when she goes into the Medium Titans, do I keep her as Close Combat, or do I perhaps start giving her a bit more range.

at which point, her new Titan will probably show up here... :D

edit: yee haw, out of the first campaign. was stubborn, kept saving, reloading, and was finally able to take down a superior force, instead of just running for the mission exit zone. that was, satisfying.

and finacially rewarding, 60k in salvage alone, plus 17k for bounty (ripped a Rifleman's head clean off), and of course the 230k in pay.

Repairs were 100k of that, though, mostly to my poor Imp, that got shot, a lot.

Still, was able to afford the remaining light, and now Melfina (my cyborg, if you're curious her callsign is Starwind  ) now owns a Raygun.

Onward and upward, after a bit of R & R.

Expect my first Medium design to be poste here sometime tommorrow.
