saving games

Post by smc415 »

I noted in another thread that I had entered a campaign with my mechs damaged. I exited battle, and then when I went to the HQ I had to pay to "retrieve" my team from battle. Is this a penalty to make me "play for keeps"? Is there another way to save and restore my team in case a mission goes horribly wrong?

Save the game at start or any point the battles is ok for you. DO NOT finish the battle in case something went wrong as your squad will be saved in its sore state. Quit the battle and reload your saved game.

The game tries to avoid 'cheating' (trying to have a look at a mission, than backing out as soon as it seems to hard) by saving a status flag as soon your squad enters battle. If you enter a battle you have to finish it or retrieve your squad in the hq or go to the maps borders and leave the battle or do just do as I suggested in my first lines.

That seems to be a decent compromise. If I get you straight, I can save from the battle map, and then exit the battle(alt-x). I can then go back and restore a saved game. If however I finish a battle, I cannot restore the previosuly saved game. Do I understand that correctly?

I really like the game so far. The interface, though not all that intuitive, really gets the job done. It is painless and fluid after going through the tutorial, and reading that sticked post. That said I really don't like it when a game developer prevents me from using cheap tactics by limiting how and when I can save and restore the game. Any chance you will be patching to allow a non restrictive procedure to save and restore games or squads.

You can restore the battle but it won't update your squads file after combat.

What different ways are of "finishing" a battle? "Alt+X"? ""Completing objetives"? "Running to the edge of map"? Which of them are considered "finishing" a battle? Are there other ways?

THX, great game.
