Steam save folder

Am I right in thinking that if you play on Steam the saves folder is not accessible, so the 'movies' saves can not be got at.

Had a look but cannot find it anywhere. I seem to remember spending some time searching for it when playing Panzer Corps and gave up eventually.

All TOAW IV saves end up in the same place. Where you bought it makes no difference at all.

OK, found it.
For some reason there are two TOAW folders.

If you bought and installed TOAW from Matrix and then asked for a Steam key there will be your Matrix install and a Steam install. But there will still be only one Save folder. That's how it went for me. I bought the game from Matrix and then got a Steam key.

I bought it from steam just a week ago.
There are two TOAW folders and have not messed about with the set up at all:
C:\Users\fierce\Documents\My Games\The Operational Art of War IV
C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\The Operational Art of War IV

There is no save folder in the second one. Am not too knowledgeable about PCs but it seems that the two folders behave as if they are the same in some ways. Move a file into one and it appears in the other.

Things got changed due to Microsoft handling of the Windows file system and their recommendations for software engineers and developers to use the new method of where to store user data and system data (I got a link somewhere).

Anyway any and all custom data goes in the <USER-NAME>/Documents/My Games***... folder including download (or not stock scenarios), custom graphics (see mine and others screenshots of alternative maps and counters) and your-saves.

Aye. Ralph explains it somewhere but don't recall the thread. Something about MS being security conscious or something. IMO it's just more confusion. [:'(]

From an OS position it makes sense, keep the system data and user data separate, if the system is compromised theoretically the user data can be saved.

But gamers and regular folks have been doing what they want since Windows 3.11 (at least that is when I was first exposed to windows).
