Did the Long Island ever get fixed?

Post by ltfightr »

I know the LI has been a source of problems with planes dissappering. Is this bug killed? If it is can the Long Island so anything besides act as a ferry boat. I know she is slow but in one game both sides have basically destroyed each others CV's and a few extra fighters to help CAP a landing would be nice.

I don't believe so, but some players have said they have used it as a carrier successfully. I wouldn't trust it, but if it workls let us know.

The only change is that it has been renamed the U.S.S. Flying Dutchman.
Put my faith in the people

So, I turned the other way,
And I carry on anyhow.

Long Island

Post by mogami »

Hi, The last three times I have used LI I had no problem. I do not try to fly aircraft from her as strikes. Often I find in PBEM games that the Japanese are working in one area. (against SOPAC or against SWPAC)
So I use Long Lisland to move fighters or carrier type bombers to where they are needed. She has not "ate" one of these airgroups yet.
And the units she moved provide quite the surprise for the enemy who does not think it possible for them to be moved.

What wrong with Long Island?

Post by mapr »

Hi,

Just yesterday I received combat replay in one of my PBM's where torpedo bombers from long Island scored two hits against surface TF that was heading to distract my PM invasion.

I sent my Long Island, that was putting the torpedoe squardron on it to reserve status and losing the pilots over board, straight into the maw of my opponent spliffmaker. Sure enough, pearl released me a replacement fleet carrier!

Was it a partial (1/) air unit or a full/regular air unit? We thought we fixed this so that full air units would not disappear in version 2.30. We make no promises about partial air units as they often will return to their main units.

Haven't had any problems transporting Air Groups and recently transferred a squadron of SBD-3's (VMSB with 16 max size) onboard with no problems so far. Since Long Island has capacity of 16 those VMSB Dauntless squadrons are perfect for it.
