Lock Target Not Working

Post by sgtkabukiman »

K, I'm very new to this.

I'm having trouble getting lock target to work.

The lock target icon is green.
1. I left click on it.
2. right click on the enemy titan.
3. nothing happens.

what am I doing wrong?

There is a time associated with this action, once you have given the order, the lock on will not occur for some seconds, and other actions that end before that time will be resolved first.

Then, however, you should have an opportunity to attack the now locked target.

The time to lock is listed at 4 seconds. I've waited 10 minutes, and nothing is happening.

Hmm. You're going to have to spell out a little more information. I assume that you are playing a hot seat game from both sides. I can't imagine that you could stand in front of an enemy for 10 minutes of game time without being destroyed.

If you are saying that nothing has happened in the game for 10 real life minutes, then the system is waiting for input from you on what comes next, I imagine.

I'm playing the turotial.

I'm at the part where you learn about jumping.

I make to hex 17/11 by using jumping forward. Where I then spot the Dummy II titan (the one that can fire)

The tutorial tells me to LOCK TARGET and SCAN IT till it scans green.

This is where I'm having the trouble. I go to scan it and nothing. I finally got it to work by jumping down. Is it that you can't LOCK TARGET while in jump mode?

Click 'Lock target' button and right click on target. When move mode shows up do NOT click call attack or you will break your lock action. If you want to wait in move for the lock to finish choose 'Wait on attack'. The time displayed for locking is in game seconds, not realtime. After 4 game seconds your attack mode will be active again and the target should be locked. Read the TOS action mode QUICK GUIDE thread if you are still unsure about the turn system. You can lock in jump, I'm pretty sure its no bug but some common mistake lots of newbies do. They break their mode with the call button instead of waiting for it to finish with the wait button.

Ah, I see. I will have to be honest and say that, in my short time playing so far, I don't recall ever trying to lock a target while in jump mode. I don't see why not, but it is possible that you cannot do it until you land.

You can definitely lock in jump mode. If you fall before it completes the lock, it will break the attack and you'll have to lock again, but otherwise it's just like being on the ground.
We sometimes catch a window
A glimpse of what's beyond
Was it just imagination
Stringing us along?
More things than are dreamed about
Unseen and unexplained
We suspend our disbelief
And we are entertained

This was really helpful. I read it during my first engagement, in the downloaded deep core campaign(in the maps forum. absolutely recommended for Noobs like me). Suddenly, about halfway through the combat, I realised there were ONLY two distinct modes where I can enter commands. I am either attacking(scanning, electronics stuff as well) or I am moving. Once I started only focusing on one of these things at a time, and placing the other mode in 'wait for call', things really started to flow. If I want to move, I tell the attack mode to 'wait either for my call or on enemy units, and then movement is much smoother. If I am ina good firing position, I put the move menu in wait on call mode, and just wait for weapons to recycle. I still can't claim to have mastered it, but it is starting to click.

Check the various 'wait' options, they will make life much easier. Wait on heat, move or attack, recycle, time ,.... its all there for you.

welp. i've gotten better at using the on wait command. Thanks to all of you for the help.

Unfortunately, still can't lock target while jumped. I don't even get an on wait option in the move menu. Strange....

You are right, there is no wait in jump mode as you can't hover in midair. Nevertheless locking should be possible. Perhaps you are landing and loosing line of sight ? I'm sure there is a reason as this is tested in lots of battles.
