Weird Soviet moral drop after fall of Moscow

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Weird Soviet moral drop after fall of Moscow

Post by rocketman71 »

Playing the 1940 campaign; I took Moscow and Volchov (NM target) in the same turn. Next during the AI turn I got a message that the fall of Moscow caused moral to plummet. No message on moral hit by the fall of Volchov. In my next turn I checked the graph for Soviet moral and nothing seems to have registred at all. No other events occured that should have given the Soviets a morale boost, such as shattering a unit or so.

I've just checked the scripts for Moscow falling in the 1940 campaign and can't see any issues there, the fall will be 5,000 + 7,500 more if Stalin had elected to help defend the capital.

Something does seem to have reduced Soviet NM towards the end of your graph, could that have been it?

There will be a 1,000 point drop due to the fall of Volkhov, but only if Leningrad is still in Allied hands when that happens, which isn't the case here.

The reason being that its importance relates solely to the ability to use the place as a base for supplying Leningrad, and after that city has fallen it has no great importance of its own. So I understand why there has been no drop there.

I checked the turn previous to the screenshot and it seems like I only got the 5000 drop in morale. Is there any way of telling about "Stalin defend capital" or not? 5000 p drop doesn't seem like "morale plummet" as the message was, but now I'm mincing words. Are NM locations hard coded to the map? Otherwise it would be handy if they disappeared when no longer valid.

Whether Stalin chose to defend the capital or not would have depended on the USSR's Decision in this regard, so only the Allied side would know that.

Normally NM locations will disappear when no longer valid, but Volkhov is an exception because of how things work.
