And on my 5th Birthday , some clown decided to put up a wall in Berlin. Bit of a downer on my celebration , as the adults were worried again. [:(]

Did you ever see Bridge of Spies? I thought that dealt with the "early Wall years" nicely.

September 11, 2001. I will never forget.
Nor I. That's one of a handful of 'flashbulb memories' that I hold-indelible pictures in the bottle of time etched onto my soul. Some good. Most bad. [:(]

On a less somber note: I've thought it interesting how you can date someone by their flashbulb memories. The ones that I am willing to talk about are the Challenger explosion, the assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan and 9/11. My in-laws (and my mother and father) both remember exactly where they were and what they were doing and who they were with when they heard about JFK being assassinated. I wonder what the common threads are for non-Americans of about our same age group, USSMike?
I have only one event that I can state for certain that I know where I was and what I was doing. And that is the assassination of Palme.

I have two other events that I remember when I found out. But I do not know where I was when it happened (I know the general area I was in). And that was the 9/11, and the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.

And, at least. one such memory that I thought I would remember forever, but I don't, and that is the U-137 incident.

Perhaps I should add that I have one such positive event and that is when Sweden won Bronze in USA -94.

A question about that movie, did it cover the time when an American went to Berln and said that he was a jelly doughnut? The people who heard it apparently cheered because they knew what he meant to say . . .

“Ich bin ein Berliner”, JFK’s speech.
I was always told that a Berliner was a type of sausage, so he effectively said “I am a sausage!”

I remember the tv footage of anti aircraft fire when Iraq invaded Kuwait and 9/11.
And when Australia qualified for the 2006 football World Cup via penalty shoot out.
Currently playing my first PBEM, no house rules Scenario 1 as IJ.

Actually, in Berlin a "berliner" is a jelly doughnut!

I could spambot.

I just started posting in other locations. I also only have ONE matrix game but I have been looking at others.

Of course, I could post a bunch of pictures of things for Zorch to look at . . .

A little late to this....

London trading floor for 9/11 - we also occupied the tallest building in Europe at the time so we gave those folks the option to go home.

Comms were knocked out by the World trade centers being taken down - I think it was Verizon who had a central office in the site. (the company I worked for was the largest tenant at the time in the WTC. I think we lost 17 people because our head of security told people to ignore the Port Authority 'stay in place' messages. IIRC 14 of the 17 losses were the security staff who kept sweeping the buildings till the end.

Now that I am retired I don't think I can be sanctioned....Rick Rescorla was the head of security - IMO a pretty impressive guy.

So Firm management used my better half as a switchboard to communicate with the Global Firm (we had our own network).

Challenger - watching in Chemistry class in high school.

Miracle on the Hudson - was on a call and looking out the window when I see a tail floating down the river. I thought they were floating a new exhibit to the Intrepid museum. I was dis-abused of that notion a few minutes later.

Kennedy - before my time.

Reagan - saw on the news.

Regards,
Frank
