OIL...WAD?

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

OIL...WAD?

Post by Texeiro »

I was testing if the fuel strategy works in ED. I tried a hotseat game. Once the refineries, oil depots and ports were destroyed, I saw on the English side the "shortage" with a number next to it. That number apparently seems meaningless. It oscillates from 20k to 7K without an attack to oil related structures. Is that the consumption of the RAF? Aerodromes with 0 fuel continue to launch airplanes. Is it necessary to destroy the transport infrastructure in addition? Could you clarify in depth how the fuel / oil supply works? thanks in advance

It's been a while since I looked at this code and Alberto had to explain to me a few times before I understood it. The shortage number is the deficit of oil and some percentage of fuel. So 7000 means the home economy is short 7000 units, so fuel is being rationed at some relative percentage to the airfields.

Economy routines are run twice per turn which seemed odd. The shortage numbers might fluctuate as oil/fuel in transit from the ports reaches the storage facilities and gets counted. Planes may be consuming available fuel as it arrives. I would be interested to see how your BoB game shakes out. If the ports are destroyed, nothing is getting to Britain and they should eventually stop launching planes.
