Getting old; need help

Post by bluesteel »

Forced to get a new computer (poor me). Anyway for the life of me I can't get ANY mods to load. Love the Fall Weiss. Even the community ones are not showing up. Made a huge mess trying to extract and install them. Found the link for how to do an edit but that isn't what I wanted. Haven't played these in such a long time as my old machine was just too slow. Appreciate any help

Hi Bluesteel,

There is a good chance you are installing them correctly, they just need to be placed in your USER/CAMPAIGNS folder such as the following:

C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\Strategic Command WWII - War in Europe

However the game has been structurally updated just meaning that some of these older mods may no longer be compatible with the latest patch.

If this is the case, all you need to do is run the Campaign Conversion Tool that is now supplied with the latest version of the game and can be found in the root installation folder for the game under the 'EXTRAS' folder.

It is pretty straight forward but I would advise reading the README file first before proceeding.

First thanks for the reply; Time has been an issue; man I tired EVERYTHING I could think of. NOTHING worked. I even re-installed and did a new down load of the game. Tried the Campaingn tool and while is seemed to work still nothing. I have a CGN file for the game but no DAT file. Any other suggestions?

For the Fall Weiss Mods I have never included a DAT file, it is always only the Campaign Folder and a CGN file in my Dropbox package file. The file downloaded from Dropbox should be unzipped to the following location on Windows:

C:Drive > Users > My Profile > Documents > MY Games > SC3 > Campaigns

Note that "My profile" is unique to your computer, based on your login name. If for some reason you can't find this folder, open the editor create a new campaign with a unique name, save it and search for the tile of the new campaign, and you have found the correct folder.

There are no other steps!

Thanks to Crispy for the latest version 3.7!

FWIW-after a couple of tries to get 3.7 recognized by WIE....given the above installation issues...I'll share what I did/learned for a successful install.
After d/l the file...BEFORE attempting to extract the mod to the campaign folder...double click on the FWII 3.7 first...now you will see two sub files...Fall Weiss II-WIE 3.7 and Fall Weiss II-WIE 3.7.cgn.
Highlight BOTH of these sub files and THEN extract to the Campaign folder.
This worked for me.

Another user posted this in the mod thread today, maybe this will help?

Sorry I have been extremely busy as wife is disabled and the week was super busy. You are not going to believe this. Try the suggestion and NO LUCK. Have a old laptop that I just have for outside and simple games when we sit outside. Downloaded the SSC to it and then the update and it worked perfect. In a million years I cna't explain it. Not sure what to do but will keep trying.

Try this... open a window of your root/main/C: drive then do search for the campaign folder in question and see where it shows up or what folder its in. This might help run down what the problem is.

Backdoor victory. Can't remember where I read it but somewhere it said to load the files into the editor and save it as a different name. Guess what - A NO GO! Some type of error message. Then wisdom of age shinned upon me. Went to the laptop and copied the files including the DAT file.Load the new file into the editor and success!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So thanks for EVERYTHING especially your patience
