north Moscow final. I will make mistake here.

The fins near Leningrad will not be released until after Mud. For some reason (brainfart) I was thinking I could get the rr hooked up and then move then in snow east to the north Russian area via rr. But duh, that rr would be below the no move line. I did not figure this out until snow turns. Plus as added insult the rr repair to Leningrad never was completed during mud.

So there!

Well here it is. For your review and dissection.

Turn 17 OOB report!

No complaints: sorry I cut off the Russian air force detail. I was told they were destroyed on turn 1 anyhow.

Really enjoyable AAR read so far!

Would you mind showing the pictures of your RR? You seem to be managing supply well for how far you've advanced.

rr

Post by BrianG »

my south rr is a few hexes west of stalino. It will head to Rostov.

One is 6 7 hexes northwest of Kharkov heading towards Kharkov, that was the one which went thru Gomel

One is north Moscow heading now SW and not toward Cherepovits. It is working south to connect with Tula RR so I have branch line for easier rr movement of tnaks.

Last: my tula line is now heading south, towards Kursk. It to will connect with the line nearing Kharkov.

I am using the 3 army hq for area rr repair. One is heading toward Kiev, One is near Leningrad and one is north of Gomel.

Really, I don't understand how the Soviets can lose this much ground in '41. Looking at the soviet deployment from the most recent turns, it's far too linear. Such deployments inevitably lead to disaster after disaster.

I understand that Bit voluntarily gave up Lenningrad this game. I can't even wrap my brain around that. If the general strategy is retreat, I get that, but if that's the strategy no encirclements = job #1. Certainly if you give up what is arguably the most defensible piece of real estate on the map, the Russian shouldn't be at 2.8M dead by mud. There's just no reason to give up ground AND take casualties...… Anyway, just seems odd to me.

Great AAR as always Brian. I just don't know where you find the time.....

Xhoel---as to balance---as I said the soviet player made a huge mistake he is unlikely to recover from it.

I actually think the game is pretty balanced as it is now Chaos. I know you're a big believer that the game is pro-German, and maybe it is a bit, but I also think the Russians can do just fine. The key is not to make those mistakes you're talking about. But that's a player problem, not a balance problem.

MattFL---Bit didn't give up Leningrad he lost like 60+ divisions staying to long trying to hold Leningrad.

You can find plenty of threads on balance to look over but I find the incoming patch to have fixed a lot of bugs that were mainly Soviet nerfs that somehow happened the last 2 patch cycles. The biggest one being fixing Experience gain back to rules as written....ppl really don't understand just how utterly devastating a nerf to the soviets this was until after 1943.

Luftwaffe 2 choices:

If I end up moving Kesselring to the land forces side.

The only choice is a promotion of crap flyer to this hq.

Richtofen is almost as good - but you would rather keep him in FKVIII.
One suggestion given to me by EwaldvonKleist was to just use Loehr who is almost as good. You can transfer up to 16 airbases including all of FKVIII into Luftflotte 4. So really you only need one good Luftflotte commander. And the costs of doing those transfers is less then appointing a different commander? You do not need HQs to be close like you do for ground commands. And anything in Luftflotte 4 will support all army groups and nations - not just AGS or Germans.

Personally I would advise for OKH and army groups the ones with the highest morale who are not good enough for corps command or are GFMs and cannot be in corps command. The latter means Reichenau, vKluge, and Kesselring.
