Don't fight with Chinese in rough terrain bases. Hit them in the open. And eliminate this pocket in the South. There is LI industry there, and Chinese get free supply.
I doubt, you have enough land forces to go into Burma, before taking Java. Speaking of which, eliminate Soerabaja first, it is full of ships.
Those two bases east of Ambon produce oil. And there should be lots of Resources at Celebes.
Watch out on Timor, it is in range of 4Es from Darwin.

I’m only a week into my game vs CrackSabbath so between that and real life, limited time to even scratch myself!
I’ll chip in when I think I can add something.
You’re well ahead of historical schedule, and further into SoPac than they got IRL.
On pilot training, I’m looking at this now too.
It’s not that useful to only track numbers in the rookie pool, as they are dangerous to themselves and others if put in harms way.
The challenge is getting enough pilots trained up so that they survive their first combat flight and eventually become good enough to do their job on the front lines.
Nothing seems to happen quickly in China or Burma with the land movement. It’s a long slow game of chess.
I wouldn’t call the Banda Sea “south central” Pacific, more like FarWesSoWesPac [:'(]

RE: RADM Yamaguchi's Diary (Pls no affins or cheesesteak)
Hi inqistor,
I'm probably a little late in china but i moved the bulk of what i have and lots of ART and ARM to the north to try to punch to SIAN and then Chunking. In the south i have some units starting to clean it up but it might take some time.
I have almost the whole 14th Div in or near Moulmein. can add more now.
On Java i have 4+ Divisions to clean up and i really pounded and sunk a lot of ships there before they were withdrawn. all that's left are 2 groups of PT boats.
Regarding the 2 little oil sources near Ambon i have Babo and will have Boela soon. Thanks.
Timor w/in range of 4Es from Darwin. I've bombarded Darwin with heavies 4 times. the airfield and port are a mess and the planes were either destroyed, damaged, or withdrawn. I have plenty of air power now at Koepang, Dili and Lauten to counter anything left.
Thanks for the concerns. It feels pretty good to at least be on top of some of those.

Hi jdsrae,
i've been reading your AAR intently and if i had anything to add i would surely have done it. I guess i don't have enough experience to suggest anything but i will rethink that. Our games are so close i'm sure there are some things i've learned that might help.
FarWesSoWesPac LOL[:D]
I have only transfered a few expert pilots to Training command but after 3/42 i might move more. I resized every float plane group to 20/24 and every carrier able airgroup to 81 that i could. I think that means more HI eventually so i expanded that a bit. Really groping in the dark here though..

In China air power, even the light loaded Japanese medium bombers, can cause disruption to his units to exploit. Agree fighting in the less defenseable terrain for him is key also pressing him because his supply situation goes from bad to worse. Attack, attack, attack!
RE: RADM Yamaguchi's Diary (Pls no affins or cheesesteak)
You really can't afford to leave Chinese forces at your rear. How much of them are in those bases in clear terrain? Artillery kills lots of troops, but it hardly helps you during assaults.ORIGINAL: RADM.Yamaguchi

That is far too little. You should probably leave Moulmein behind, and land directly at Rangoon. And where are your ships? You are almost in India, you should expect intervention of whole British fleet at any moment.I have almost the whole 14th Div in or near Moulmein. can add more now.
Allies should have at least 3 fresh fighter groups now in Australia. Around 150 planes, beware. You only beaten restricted groups so far.Timor w/in range of 4Es from Darwin. I thought it was okay to not destroy chinese units but just bottle them up. I thought they could respawn if you killed them off. I think i can still do okay against the aussie fighters if they show up. my zeros have been doing pretty good. I'm just guessing though. i have almost the whole 25th army to add to burma now that singapore is done. it's pretty funny - i said 14th division. what i meant to say was the whole 14th army in/around moulmein.ORIGINAL: inqistor

While I agree that rookie pilots have limited combat value, monitoring the pool size has some merits (whether it is worth the effort is another thing lol). Pool size equates to HI expenditure, as a JFB, I will seek to try to draw it down slow and steady. The savings in HI are huge compounded over the months!
My $0.02 only
RE: RADM Yamaguchi's Diary (Pls no affins or cheesesteak)
Yeah, if you beat them up three times in a row. There are lots of bases to protect, and single Chinese Army can beat anything below full Brigade. Put some recon over nearby bases, to know what left there.ORIGINAL: RADM.Yamaguchi

This is not time for Boomerangs yet. Expect P-40s, and two fresh groups of Hurricanes in Burma.

RE: RADM Yamaguchi's Diary (Pls no affins or cheesesteak)
does anybody know of the best ways to have a chance for a group of IJN destroyers equipped with Type 93 torpedoes to be able to meet a superior surface TF and engage with their long lances while limiting the allied response?
i suspect a lot of night naval search, experienced crews, around the new moon would help. But what kind of leader would be best? high naval, low agression?

RE: RADM Yamaguchi's Diary (Pls no affins or cheesesteak)
Finish Suva by resting your troops for a few days while your planes and or ships bombard them, your negative modifier in fatigue hurt you in the last attack. His forts are down to zero so after a few days of bombardments you should go for a shock attack.
I see you left North Island of NZ off the list. It could make him take an even longer route to supply OZ and stop supplies to NZ altogether.

Hi Bif,
didn't see your message til too late. i got another SNLF in and attacked again without waiting. Bad decision should have waited like you suggested.

RE: RADM Yamaguchi's Diary (Pls no affins or cheesesteak)
Low aggression probably, can also work during bad weather, but why do you expect to encounter superior forces? You should have total control of the seas now. Check your CLs, there should be two with like 30 Torpedo Tubes each.ORIGINAL: RADM.Yamaguchi
does anybody know of the best ways to have a chance for a group of IJN destroyers equipped with Type 93 torpedoes to be able to meet a superior surface TF and engage with their long lances while limiting the allied response?
i suspect a lot of night naval search, experienced crews, around the new moon would help. But what kind of leader would be best? high naval, low agression?
Supply hardly moves between India, and Burma, that is why Allies drop supply directly at Rangoon, and move it to China. There will be transports there, until you cut the road.
I hardly use more than one BB during bombardments, your 4 is overkill. Split them, so you will get one BB TF every day.
And IIRC, several ships arrive at Ceylon. If you conquer port of arrival, they will be destroyed, and never show up in game.

Thanks. I just would like a couple DD squadrons available at short notice to respond to his CA amd CL led BB TFs when my larger units are busy doing something else.

That's good to know. I'll try to keep rangoon port under regular port attack with bombs and naval attack with torps

Ok. I'll try but it sure is cool to see the damage a group of them cause.

That is some really good info. I'll see if i can make that work. I'm guessing Columbo not Tricomelae
