Updating WIF on new computer

I have had to retire another PC and installed WIF from my original discs. Now I need to update before transferring my last game files to the new computer (currently on a thumb drive). I tried the "update" that is on the screen at the beginning of the game but it doesn't respond.
I also read that it is necessary to update from the original to an earlier update before doing a recent update.

Can someone walk me through the process? I'm suffering from "withdrawal" from so many days without my usual WIF "fix!"

Can't you just get the latest (public beta) release from the "members only" area and just install that one without have to install version 1? And then install the latest hot fix?

Yes, go to Matrix Games home page, and click on My Page and that should take you to where you can select World in Flames and its File Downloads. Download [PC] Installer v3.00.01.0 (Apr 09, 2019) and unzip it to a folder (not to your desktop) and then run it to do the install, and then get the hot patch from here: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4688355

Follow the instructions in the post about the hot patch.

Thanks! It's really amazing how many improvements there have been to the game! I've gotten used to many features and maybe a bit "spoiled" but want to get back to the updated version asap!
