QUESTION: Artillery, Mortar or Airstrike?

Other than the shape and size of the target area, does it make much difference which is used?

For example, if tanks are in the East and Infantry in the West, on which target would mortars, artillery and airstrike be most effective?

I use each against infantry and soft vehicles (halftracks, cars). This is more effective than using these strikes on armor. Keep in mind the strikes take some time to come in after the order. So you either need to suppress the enemy in the target area till the strike comes, or anticipate where the enemy will be when the strike comes in.

Airstrikes with rockets or bombs are about the only fire support that can knock out a tank. Artillery is marginally effective (you might be a near miss that immobilizes or damages the tank) and mortars not so much.

In a situation where you're facing tanks you can use mortar and artillery fire to pin down the accompanying infantry, allowing you to engage enemy tanks that push with your infantry AT grenades or AT guns while the tanks are at a spotting disadvantage.
