MP Quitters

I've found that a lot of players just quit their MP matches without even a comment as to why. This is really annoying after spending 40-50 turns getting to a point where the game is getting interesting and then the opponent resigns or just doesn't take any more turns. One good thing about the AI is that it won't quit on you.

Yes, I've been ghosted once or twice. Perhaps we should open a thread where players can post the names of those who quit in such a manner?

Welcome to the online world. I've played entire matches without exchanging a word.

You don't need a list of "bad" players, that is too judgemental. Instead a list of good PBEM partners is a good idea.

PS Either of you two looking for another game?

Thanks, I'm taking a break from MP, too much work too little time. I'm looking forward to another ARR from you at some point though!

I'd be happy to do a 1.05 AAR but I'd need an opponent who agrees. Not everyone wants to showcase their playstyle (nor continue the game even if losing).

I agree that we don't necessarily need a list of rude players who quit without notice (it has happened to me too...), and while chatting in game or with PM messages/e-mail messages is not required to enjoy the game, I personally think and feel that it helps in terms of building a friendly relationship that not only has value at a personal level, but also at a community level which helps to support and ensure that great games like this continue to be improved and developed.

A list of players people recommend, on the other hand, may not be a bad idea! [:)]

I have had someone resign after I have played turn 1, OK I had some very good dice rolls in that game but WTF no PM message [:@]

Then tonight I excepted a challenge and had to deal with some family issue before I could play turn 1 (as the Axis) relogged in to find my opponent had resigned?
Again no message or PM.

But I think a message/ conversation system like they had in PC2 would be a massive improvement to the game.

At the moment it is frustrating the limit on the length of message/chat you have in game, It is not long enough for more experienced players to give feedback and help to newer players,
and more experienced players to discuss different tactics.

I think if this was improved it would really help build the community who play the game and help stop the sudden resigning of games by some players (who may have given up hope and are not getting praise for what they have done well in a game even if they are losing)

I am no computer expert so have no idea how easy it would be to improve this part of the game, but I am sure it would be worth the effort as more players would stay playing the game and encourage people they know to take it up.

Well, on the bright side, quitting early is better than sinking hours into a game and they quit in 41!

I think shaming is probably not the way to go, but recommending is pretty solid.

That's what happened in one of my recent PBEM games. Got into early '42 after a lot of turns and poof player resigns with no comment. Game was still balanced at that point.

It would be nice to be able to communicate without having to commit to doing a turn. I've had to open the game, then spend five to ten minutes letting a turn advance before being able to resign. I do try to send a note when I resign, but it would be a lot easier.

Or at the least, allow a note to be posted when you are resigning. As it stands, when somebody resigns, it just goes 'poof'. If there was a way to at least say, "Wow, you really outfoxed me in the North Atlantic, I can't see how I can pull this out!" It might help

Being rather new to this game, I did resign without further notice in my first PBEM. I played against an expert player, taking Warsaw at turn one and as he did Seelöwe in July or August 1940, killed RAF and took London, I thought it was clear that the game was won by him and didnt see it as rude to quit. However, and this is my point, I wasnt aware at that point that there was a game chat. I took several games to find out that, and I might be dumb, but so are others. Please take that into consideration.

I wasn't trying to cast shade on anyone. Most of us are still learning the game as we go. I was making the suggestion/request that at some point, perhaps the Devs could look at beefing up the Chat a bit, is all.

Well, it wasnt directed at you actually, but to the topic, which was the suggestion to make a list of players who quit without getting notice. I agree with your suggestions, of course, that a better chat function in the game would be helpful and most welcome.

I do want to throw something out there, i recently had some issues involving the hurricane where I had no way of messaging many of the people i was playing against, my only recourse was to post a message here on the forums and make some decisions as to the State of the Game where I felt resigning was better to give my opponent the win/resign rather than drag it out as i had to evacuate. Also its a bit of a pain in the butt to load up the game, type out the message and then resign. I would prefer the following:
1) Wins and losses kept
2) Larger text box maybe even its own "click" section in the game where its like a mini email back and forth. It sucks after two sentences its stops. I mean I could write less in the box but then I get too lazy to quit:)
3)PBE Ladder
4) Email option when you mouse over your opponents names that allows you to send the email via the forums.
5) When setting up the game the option is 1 turn every 24 hours/72 hours, one week. I really think this option would be good for allowing players to play to their level of engagement. We had this with ONline Axis and Allies, and the standard etiquette was, if it was a 24 hour turn rule, you gave the person in extra day to play, and if they didn't close the game out and collect your win. Same with 3 days, you give an extra day and move on.

How feasible these options are I have no idea, but I also don't favor shaming or calling players out. Everyone learns this game at different levels and speeds. I can relate to the player above who said, "I didn't even know you could talk to the other player!"

Just had another quitter mid'41 with no comment (ahv). I like your suggestions. I would like my own list as it's frustrating to spend so much time on a match and have a player drop out just as it's getting interesting. Advantage of SP is the AI doesn't just quit.

Another quitter right before Pearl Harbor Dec' 41 attach (zyprokza). I don't get why someone would play 60 turns and quit right when things start to get interesting.

I have been playing wargames for recreation for 60 years. If my opponent is not enjoying himself I have no problem with him quitting the game. In ftf we usually then chat about the game and start another. I agree that a comment to your opponent when resigning is the civil and mature way to step out.

It would be helpful if there was some way to communicate host experience level/talent when issuing an open challenge.

That being said, I'm a rookie in WaW looking for a campaign game against another rookie if my current opponent zyprokza remains missing in action; however I see that all the invitations are "locked". I prefer axis but will play allied if asked.
