Bombing and artillery targeting

Post by StreetF16 »

Does anyone know of a way for aircraft or artillery to target specific units in a stack? I can't find any options besides area bombing the entire hex, with damage getting spread across all enemy units in it.

You can specify the air units in the hex with the "Airfield Attack".

If the hex is an anchorage, you can specify the naval units with the "Port Attack".

Thanks, that helps a bit. But what I'm really after is a way to specify target priority for air attacks. I don't see any way, for example, to target an SA-6 first then go after the remaining ground units on the hex. Or hit all the arty first, before wasting bombs on enemy trucks. Etc...

Right now it seems that all we can do is carpet bomb the entire hex and hope we get the key targets along with everything else.

Years ago I commented on this very issue, especially appartent in large scale modern scenarios, where precision weapons like B-2 bombers are next to useless compared to dumb munitions.

This issue has been mentioned before. Even in WW2 targets could be picked out such as tanks or artillery parks. The progress towards resolving it is apparent.

If duct tape doesn't fix it then you are not using enough duct tape.

We're going to have to take matters into our own hands and produce a wargamming simulation program to replace TOAW. Open source of course.
