Good compared to the original?

Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem is a highly enhanced new release of Close Combat, using the latest Close Combat engine with many additional improvements. Its design is based on the critically acclaimed Close Combat – A Bridge Too Far, originally developed by Atomic Games, as well as the more recent Close Combat: The Longest Day. This is the most ambitious and most improved of the new Close Combat releases, but along with all the enhancements it retains the same addicting tactical action found in the original titles! Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem comes with expanded force pools, reserve & static battlegroups, a troop point buying system, ferry and assault crossings, destructible bridges, static forces and much more! Also included in this rebuild are 60+ battles, operations and campaigns including a new enhanced Grand Campaign!

Good compared to the original?

Post by alwaysdime »

How is this compared to the original. Is there an option use the classic game play? I remember jumping map tp map without any ammo left and that really strong feeling of dread from any attack. I am afraid the new campaign layer will take that tenseness away from the game.

All feed back is appreciated.

LSA is a much different game than CC2. It has a strat map like CC4/CC5 or TLD/WAR with some new features; blowing bridges, getting support squads from a 2nd BG, etc.

For dread ammo can run short sometimes but, especially for the Germans, the small BG's definitely make each man/squad important so you have to play very carefully.

Thanks for the reply. I passed on this but GOG had the original CC2 on sale for like $1.60 so I picked it up. It plays fine aside from the low resolution. I look forward to playing it this weekend.

I used to play CC2 back in the late nineties and it was one of my favorite games. One of the new features I like is being able to set way-points for your units. I just started playing CCLSA so I'm still learning. One thing I do miss about the original is that CC2 had a unit/weapons description which is now missing from CCLSA.

best wishes

In the Battle Group screen if you select a squad and then;
- hover over a weapon picture in the right bottom the name of the weapon will appear
- click on weapon picture you will hear the weapon sound

Unfortunately though there is nothing on this screen that provides you the damage or range.

When in battle though you can select a squad and see its AP and AT damage and range.

Still the best CC even with its known unaddressed issues: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3716292

For anyone wanting to try to Close Combat, LSA is almost always in the discussion of which is the best....
