Tournament Round 1 Thread
Round 1 is nearly complete! If you want to play in Round 3 etc., please post in the most current thread, or you can send me an email.
It looks like we might be able to start round 3 as early as Jan. 1 2020 at the current pace.
Copied below is a link to the new round 1 news letter. Couple of new items in that: an inspirational poster for the Axis player and an updated tournament grid. I hope I translated the poster correctly -- I tried to capture its spirit.
Ok, well thanks to everyone for all the helps and suggestions that made for a successful tournament start! Hope to read your major game developments here and ... looking forward to round 2!
Here is the link to the new news letter. It is a two page pdf document that will open in a new window

It may seem that your opponent is watching playback or using possession flags to detect units.
This is not so. The "Peaks" on the map serve as "lookout" points.
Some can be climbed; others not (Peaks + Dunes cannot be climbed).
They can provide valuable battlefield information.

Peaks/dunes CAN be climbed by foot units. And, if you only have motorized units, there is the "Dismount" option.ORIGINAL: Hellen_slith

Yes, some minefield can be "cleared" ... or maybe they are just deteriorating.
Got dusty in the sand, I guess.

Well, sandy is kicking my butt pretty handily in our game, we are on around turn 15. He has a SV so far and captured one of my Generals. Cruell? Crewell? ?sp? can't remember his name, but he's in Allied hands now.
RE: Tournament Round 1 Thread
Did the VPs show up for that, not sure if they did in my game ?captured one of my Generals

Meanwhile, the nightingale intones
With sweet, mellifluous sounds.
Enough of Stalin, Freedom for the Ukraine !

Different commanders have different values (e.g., Rommel and Auk are the highest points for capturing, 100 each i think it was ... )
For cruewll he got 75 points
The news only says captured / died, but the points are there in the events editor so I assume that they are awarded too when the news item shows up
RE: Tournament Round 1 Thread
I got Cruewell in our game (unit was surrounded and destroyed) but don't know if there was ever an event show up and certainly nothing in the VPs.
Maybe they can escape from a pocket ?

If you have the .sal files, the event would have showed up in "recent news" the turn following. Or you could check the final .pbl file which shows losses for both sides if you click "inventory and replacements" / you can also see all info about opponent forces / losses / news from their side, too
In my game w/ sandy, it isn't going to make much difference ... he is well on his to an OV with 10 or so moves to go ... unless I can pull a rabbit out my hat LoL all my Axis units are shooting duds, can't seem to inflict much damage. I get the feeling that if you're capturing commanders, you're pretty much OV in the bag
This is what I see on my screen:

Looks like sandy has an early OV. Trying to confirm.
RE: Tournament Round 1 Thread
There was nothing in the 'recent news' so looks like if you surround the unit and kill it the VPs are not always applicable. If you have the .sal files, the event would have showed up in "recent news" the turn following. Or the game didn't advance enough for it to show up (the news I showed was from a move later, if I recall) ... or the VPs applied and the news didn't show up ... not sure, you'd have to ask McBride.

RE: Tournament Round 1 Thread
Round 1 is nearing completion! There are still two games that I know are still in progress (or perhaps just needing to report results) and one game that I am trying to confirm result.
I would like to "accelerate" the pairings for Round 2 if I can. I just need info on the games that are still in progress, viz. expected result?
Hoping to get Round 2 started by Nov. 1, so now is the time to withdraw if you must or join if you can. A new newsletter is ready to post, but I wanted to get the new pairings into it if I can.
Thanks!

Thanks, I did not know that. I think the email thing works, though.
Will check into that, did not know I was squelched there
edit: Fixed now.
