Googled it and all I got were how to redeem the key. NO clue as to what it is.

Steam is an online gaming service. Steam keys are serials you use to register a game with them. You get a Steam key when you buy a game on their service. Here we offer free Steam keys for games bought here first. Provided the game is also published through Steanm too.
Wargame, 05% of the time.
Play with Barbies 05% of the time.
Play with Legos 10% of the time.
Build models 20% of the time
Shopping 60% of the time.
Exlains why I buy em more than I play em.
