General map question

Warplan is a World War 2 simulation engine. It is a balance of realism and playability incorporating the best from 50 years of World War 2 board wargaming.

General map question

Post by GenSlack »

Why are so many cities, ports, etc. unlabeled on the map? This must be intentional. Thanks!

Keeps the map neat and clean I suppose. If you hover over the hex it does give city names however in the lower left panel.

If the map was filled you would be like WOW too many names! I tried to find a balance.

I make maps for a living - the map definitely needs a pass-over.

I find the map fine. Clear and easy to read. Maybe some minor issues but nothing that cant be changed over time.

"Montbrun" You saying the map need a pass over might be just because you are working with maps.
I would suggest you instead of just saying it need a pass over instead told what needed to be done from your perspective as a map maker. Then "Alvaro Sousa" could change the things he would agree with.

I'm not being critical, at all. I don't know anything about coding, much less creating a game with a competent AI.

Spain looks kind of wonky, the projection is a little bit strange, and there are several hexes that names need to be reviewed.

That's all.

I don't mind the Peter's Projection, but the UK map I find very off, in particular the location on Manchester (way too far south - it should be north of Liverpool) and Birmingham (too far west), and rail links are a bit strange (though partially because of the off city placement). Also very surprised not to see Bristol on the map - after London, it's the second largest city on south England, but I think Alvaro is on improving the UK city placements! The UK map is better modeled in SC3 (though I'm preferring the Warplan gameplay)

The map projection is... challenging, and the USA is last priority for changes, but as a New Englander... um....

Well, here's my suggestion for a couple tweaks:

(possibly move Boston one hex south too?)

EDIT: I might lose the rail corridor across northern Maine coming from Quebec.

It's a Peter's map projection but I can see where some areas can be improved. Thanks.
