End Game Report

Post by Flaviusx »

Finished first game as Allies on normal settings, March 12, 1943.

The game hung when Germany surrendered.

Very fun game, will obviously have to crank up the settings against the AI here. The Axis got stuck in France early on and didn't knock it out until summer of 41. By that point the Soviets entered the war on their own and the German army wasn't even deployed to meet them. The AI indeed elected to declare war on Vichy and Spain instead of focusing on the East. The Western Allies never had to invade Europe, they ended up pouring units in Spain and pushing on from there while the Red Army pushed from the East.

The AI skipped the Norwegian invasion early on. I guess that isn't a scripted event, maybe it should be?

The AI did surprise me by making a small landing on the UK in 1940, which ended up helping it in France, since I had to pull back the BEF to squash that incursion. Memo to self: don't leave the UK empty against a human player.

Besides the surrender bug, there seems to be something wrong with certain promotions changing the basic unit characteristics. For example, an engineering upgrade to an armor unit will turn it into an assault class unit. I ended up just giving everyone the elite promotion to avoid this bug.

Specify what you mean by the game hung at the end? The victory screen should have shown. The game ended at the end of your turn correct?

The engineering specialty. Do you mean the advancement changed on the armor? That's strange because one system is not part of the other. Was the armor a mech? There is a bug with advacements on mech. It applies infantry advancements instead.

The invasion of Norway sometimes happens, sometimes doesn't depending on the situation.

No victory screen shown. The game stopped processing in the middle of the Axis turn, right after Germany surrendered. Unless this is supposed to take a while to calculate, but I waited a full minute. The promoted unit may have been a mech, I don't recall. Also, I think the infiltration promotion has this problem as well. Basically, after trying out the various promotions, the only safe one was the elite promotion.

Game balance suggestion: you might want to dial back the effect of influence on major powers. I dumped all of mine on the Soviet Union on turn 1, and that brought them all the way up to 75% readiness which is part of the reason they came into the war so early. The Soviet Union was practically at full production from turn one, and there's several game events that increase their readiness on top of that. Maybe I just got lucky here with the influence rolls, but even so, that's practically a game winner right there.

I sent you a PM to send me end of turn.

Diplomacy is not recommended for the scenarios because it is so hard to balance.
