It’s coming into summer/cricket season down here.

I listen to test match cricket (that’s the 5 day version for the uninitiated) via radio while doing yard work on weekends.
The game has official drink breaks which are a good prompt to stay hydrated myself!

In work hours, the live scores websites that stealthily show the live score in the bottom task bar are pretty handy.

Not me. In many sports its, but not in others - Football (association), rugby, cricket* etc all have world cups that are a more true test.

(*Cricket is not in the Olympics at all, unlike baseball, but as Ghandi said, cricket was the best thing about the British Empire, and a civilising influence.)

It's probably something only the old timers can appreciate, but if you could sign up for a radio broadcast that just talked about the game, I'd pay money for it. No politics, no SJW topics, no contracts, no wives and girlfriends - just the history of the game, the diamond, and what's happening on it.

Always loved listening to Joe Buck's dad do the games. He was as good as they get.

There's an old saying in the USA that "baseball is made for radio." That's how I do it, since I don't have television. I listen to Atlanta Braves games throughout the season. It's not ritualistic or ironclad. I'll miss some games and seldom listen to an entire one. But I probably catch at least part of 150 games during the season. I love the ebb and flow of a baseball game on the radio. I like hearing the announcer offer insights into the game or tidbits about where a player is from and the circuitous path he took to the major leagues, and reminiscences of the past. While listening, I can be doing other things, such as driving or playing this game or painting the house. So it's no stretch to say that I love Atlanta Braves baseball. Since June 7, 1974.

There was a time I used to follow NBA. But once I understood that all major American sport leagues (NBA, NFL, NHL, MLS) operate as closed shops with clubs as franchises I quickly lost all interest in all of them. I hope FIFA will enforce USFF and MLS to adopt promotion/relegation and participation in the league will be based on sporting merit, and not resources criteria.

There were a lot of bad things about the British Empire, especially in India, but I'd say the ideals of universal health care and education might have more lasting and positive effect than cricket. [;)]

I've lived overseas for about 2/3 of my post-undergrad life. I've narrowed down my religiously watched sports to college football. I'll watch at 1 a.m., 4:30 a.m. or 8:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, or one hour earlier if the archaic non-daylight savings time is in operation. I used to watch it purely on Armed Forces Network, but now there are plenty of streaming options. I also had a three-year stint in the late 90s in which I had a Star satellite dish. That's when I started to be exposed to rugby, F-1 and cricket. I got into rugby a lot, but could not by any means understand or get into cricket. One advantage of rugby is that a lot of the games are in close time zones and you can catch games at pubs all through the Asian region. A great way to learn the nuances is to play the ignorant yank at the pub and get a nearby limey or limey derivative, or even a Frenchman, to school you on the finer points of the sport.

I can't imagine a World Series in which the road team wins every game. The odds are so long. That and the fact that the Nats have fallen into a funk - and the fact that Houston is a very strong team - bode ill for the Nats.

These are two good teams, but the Astros are better by a not insignificant margin.

Wow! What a finish! Disappointed for the Astros nation, but very pleased that the Series was very watchable, with requisite drama and plot twists. What a World Series is supposed to be. [8D]

Living in the AL East - cheering for the underdog is somewhat natural.

While it's only recently been in the news (or rather: for the first time in a few years), I find myself rooting against the Astros as a team despite their stable of lovable stars and HOF-caliber talent (Verlander, Greinke, Altuve) because their front office is kind of despicable. And I'm not talking about just the Osuna issue, but also their behavior vis-a-vis other clubs -remember last year with the cameras in the dugout? Or how about the unauthorized access to the Cardinals data? Their front office is and has been rotten. So it's a weird case of enjoying (most of) the players while despising the franchise itself.

Not too different from the Yankees experience, actually, although in some ways the Astros push the envelope on inappropriate behavior that little bit farther.

I mean Greinke's pitching last night was nuts. The guy is a freaking wizard. I wanted him to succeed, but I wanted his team to lose (or not have even been there in the first place) simply because of the moral bankruptcy of the Astros organization.
