Axis vs AI

Post by tyronec »

Thought I would try a game vs the AI on maximum difficulty (Ubermensch-Optimal) to see how things go.
Started under patch 02.01.

Jan '40.
Netherlands, Belgium & Denmark taken.
Poland won't surrender but they are all out of supplies. There was a game freeze if I attacked some units so just waiting for them to die on their own.
I can't make much progress against France attacking head on but the AI sometimes leaves gaps like this to go through and can surround them.

Poland eventually surrendered.
Yugoslavia taken.
At war with Greece, just picking off the occasional unit.
Turkey surrendered.
Making inroads into France, have lost one Corps to a counterattack so far.

Turkey is a pushover, took it out with one Panzer and one infantry corps.
Position in the Middle East same turn, note the two Greek units that have gone walkabout.

Cairo is proving difficult to take.

Egypt taken.
Spain is proving heavy going, might have made a mistake attacking here. Corunna is particularly difficult as can only attack with one unit at a time.

Is it the Peter projection that makes Spain bigger than France?

Actually his post of Spain invasion is titled "December '40". All his posts have dates in their titles.

Spain falls, Gibraltar taken.
My guys are lining up on the Soviet border.
Losses have been heavy, think 2 Corps got killed in France and some heavy attrition taking taking some of the well defended hexes like Athens and Gib.

Ready to invade Soviet Union.

Had a look at the '41 scenario start and German strength is similar; about 10 Panzer, 30 Infantry Corps in the front line and another 10 in reserve. I do have 6 more Panzers in the build queue and also can attack through the Caucasus and where there are almost no Soviet defenders.

Will try leaving some ports open in France to see if the UK can be persuaded to waste some units.

Will switch all production to Air/Naval in the hope of attacking UK next year.

Offensive against the Soviets seems to be progressing OK. Playing on the harder settings hasn't really slowed down the advance.

All the oil fields in the Cacausus taken, just waiting for the rail to catch up before advancing further.

No landings from the British.
Am getting 10+ convoy kills a turn between subs operating from France and the Italian surface fleet from Gib, no counter measures to date.

Continue to push into Soviet Union.
Defences seem to be getting weaker, am able to surround any of the stronger units and kill them that way.
First partisan unit appeared this turn.

Nothing from the UK, continuing to trash their convoys with subs and the Italian fleet.
Given up waiting for the 2nd front and am taking out Portugal.

Attack into the USSR more ponderous but there are not enough Soviet units to make much of a defence.
Have killed off about 1/3 of their ground forces.
Stalingrad taken, Leningrad should go soon. Moscow maybe not this year.
I thought this would be a lot more difficult on the harder settings, taking France and some of the rough terrain minors certainly was, but it seems not.

UK doing nothing.

Are they waiting for US arrival and oil?

Guess there are too many Germans near coast for them to invade.

Soviets have pretty much had it, am able to continue to advance a little even in the blizzard. Just can't take urban if there is a good unit in it, will wait for better weather.

Time to switch to the UK, have never tried an invasion before. Will try building paras and aircraft.
