Doubt THE ROAD OF BURMA

Post by gervabit »

If there is a clear road between Rangoon and Tsuyung, 500 supplies appear on this base.
Doubt arises where these supplies come from, are they discounted from any basis? They appear Magically ?.
If it is the latter, shouldn't the ally have to make some kind of logistical effort to keep the route open?

They do appear magically in the Game :)

IRL there were plenty of supplies dumped at Rangoon awaiting transfer to China at the beginning of war - these could not be touched by the US/Brits - thus for the time frame before the Jap occupation of Rangoon it assumes the drawing on those supplies.

Also the IRL Burma Road was reopened from Ledo - and this is not in game. Rangoon fell too late to be of big use in the Burma Road transport before the end of war.

But basic logic used here is that supplies (weapons, etc) were already bought by Chinese and thus unavailable to any other allies (Chiang was quite crazy about this).

In any game and in any simulation abstractions must be made. In WITP-AE the abstractions for this are 1) the supply magically appears, and 2) the Allies must keep the route open (as dictated by the game engine).

I never played as an ally, even from the abstractions that are made in the game, I assumed that those supplies appeared far away and should have been moved to be used.
Maybe in the future you could see no ?. If 500 supplies are spent, 500 appear in another distant port. This will force the ally to make a logistical effort that is not contemplated today.

The supplies only appear if you control the stretch of bases between Rangoon and Tsuyung. The Burma Raod can be closed quickly by the Japs by dropping some paratroopers on one of the bases. Moreover, since Rangoon is the biggest port in the Burma economy, all supply surplus accumulates in Rangoon. Thus, it is reasonable to think that the 500 magical supplies in Tsuyung are just supplies railed daily from Rangoon's supply stockpiled in its warehouses.
