Question regarding scenario building

Post by exsonic01 »

1) Regarding AI unit beginning position, would it be better to set beginning position by designer for AI forces? Or let AI fully decide where to begin his units? What would make AI behavior much better?

2) If I don't fix the beginning position, then does the beginning location of player units and AI units are initialized? Or is the fixing just force the player (and AI) not to move designer-set-positions?

3) When placing player unit and AI unit, would it be better to place them on the road with marching formation? Or place them on the field with line or wedge or reverse wedge formation? What I mean "better" in this situation is about AI's behavior and aggressiveness during game. Does AI change formation by itself during game?

4) If I set AI unit spacing as narrow, does AI interactively change spacing based on geometry? Or does AI play with narrow or wide spacing only?

I wish AI not to place AI units in woods or city. I could use no-go zone in AI deployment zone. However, I wish to make this scenario as playable from both faction.

In short, all of above questions are related with
A. What setting makes AI not to attempt piecemeal attack and makes game more challenging, as much as possible?
B. Is this always recommended to scenario designer to set AI beginning location? Or AI just changes whatever beginning location AI wants?

Currently it's not possible to pre-place and lock the AI side formations at all. The AI opponent forms its own plan freely, and only the player side can be pre-placed. My plan is to implement support for locking the defending side AI formations and obstacles in the near future. The main challenge is that the scenario designer can choose to lock only a part of the AI force, so the rest of the units must be deployment with this considered.

I got it, thanks to let me know. More freedom for scenario designers will be always welcomed.

Ah, good. I was just going to post a question about getting the option to place the AI defender or at least be able to designate general areas for placement but the AI will still put them in the area so the player does not know specifically where the units are.

I've generated some AI defense scenarios where the bulk of the AI force ends up too far away from the objectives and/or scattered to have any impact on the battle.
