odd crashes

Post by endrsgm »

as good as the sounds are in the game i usually turn them off or down and listen to something else as i play. often online. so i tend to minimize the game a few times every now and then to change what im listening too.

sometimes, not always but definitely more than seldom, the game itself just completely closes up and disappears. never affects the operating system. doesnt affect anything else. and often the launcher is still there on screen. so its a medium risk that i could lose a few turns each time i minimize.

is this normal?
is there something i can do to prevent this short of "not doing that"?

thanks you all.

I have noticed if the sound is muted when you launch the game it will through an error and crash. If you mute the sound that might be the problem. Try turning the sound down and see if that helps

Not sure to be honest as this is the first I've heard of the issue. Just out of curiosity, have you tried to play on another computer? Is it the same there?

Hi Mercutio,

Could you tell me more specifically what you mean when you mention muting the sound? Muting the operating system sound, or just setting the sound in game all the way down? If it is the latter, is this for the sound effects, or the music, or both?

Thanks,
Hubert

hi, sorry it took me a bit to respond. wanted to start with a ty for responding and trying to help.

i run the game with sounds. i just turn them down lower but not completely off. so as i listen to whatever i still hear moving and battle sounds, etc. so whatever that issue is it isnt related to the one i have.

when im playing i often click to minimize and maximize using the windows key. often when i maximize the game i click the mouse to find the cursor. sometimes i (inadvertently) do this before the game has evidently done whatever internally it is doing. sometimes there is no ill effect. sometimes i get a little white box telling me the program isnt working and do i want to wait or close it - i pick wait and within a half second or so the game is going just fine. but sometimes the game just "disappears". poof.

now, when the game disappears the launcher is still there. there is nothing in the windows logs about any crashes. other programs on the computer are still working just fine. and if i re-launch the game it works just fine. usually ive lost some of the game that wasnt saved tho.

i havent tried it on another computer. as an absolute worst case i guess i could use my daughters but ...well, the politics of that make me want to leave it for an absolute last case....

Hi Hubert,

Sorry for not getting back sooner. Seems fine now! IIRC it was when I disabled sound in the tray because of autorun videos on the web. However I cannot duplicate it.

Hi endrsgm,

Thanks for the follow up and it really is an odd sounding error and is the first I'm hearing of it. Also a difficult one to track based on your description as I've been unable to repeat it.

Perfectly understandable about the second computer, I suspect I would have the same issue on my end with my own daughter!, but in the meantime I'll keep an eye out for it to see if I can find something.
