Modding Tips, Pitfalls and Miscellaneous Info
Perhaps it will be a useful resource to have an on-going thread to document various "things" we discover about modding. Tips, procedures, pitfalls and any other miscellaneous information that might be helpful to the community.
Recommendation: If you add an informational post, give it an emboldened title so it's easy to spot among all the other general-conversation posts.

To give an idea of what I mean, I'll start with this.
Units.png template columns:
1 = HQ
2 = Garrison mode
3 = Undefined (Alvaro: probably will be motorized)
4 = Undefined (Alvaro: probably will be heavy unit not sure yet.)
5 = infantry div, corp, or army
6 = Cavalry
7 = Marine
8 = Para/Airborn
9 = Mountain
10 = Mechanized
11 = Armored
12 = Air Superiority Group (typ. fighters)
13 = Ground Attack Group (typ. fighter-bomber/attack bomber/dive bomber)
14 = Tactical Air Group (typ. medium bomber)
15 = Strategic Air Group (typ. strategic bomber)
16 = Submarine fleet
17 = Naval fleet, day
18 = Naval fleet, night
19 = Unknown ground unit
20 = Unknown air unit

RE: Modding Tips, Pitfalls and Miscellaneous Info
I compared flags in the units.png template with the nation index numbers from the editor and it appears there is a one-to-one correspondence except there seems a mismatch around index 23-24/Iceland. When I figure this out I will correct this post.
Edit: Okay, I think I've figured it out - in the official campaigns, Iceland occupies slot #24. If you create a new campaign, South Africa occupies slot #24. I think all the rest of the slots are the same, but I've only spot-checked.

you're welcome - if we all pitch in, we can save each other a lot of time

Yeah, THANKS mroyer!!!
Extremely useful!
And perfect timing for me!
I was just wondering why my new Dutch units wouldn’t show up on the map.
Turned out they were in the Dutch East Indies... [:)]

Is the specialty cost of 100 hard coded or is there somewhere I am missing that you can change that value? I went through the sections in the editor and saw most values used in the game but can't find that one. Is it named something less obvious that doesn't have specialty in the name?

Anyone found a way to move the numbers around on the markers or change the colors?

Nope - or change the font. My guess is you can't.

hard coded.
Alvaro, could you consider 'hard coding' a white outline to the black text in some future update? It might be fairly easy to code that - Unity might even have the facility built in. (I know... it's probably not easy....).
If it were easy to do and looked okay in the game on smaller text, a light outline would give modders much more color latitude. It makes the text much more visible on dark backgrounds and yet has little effect on light backgrounds.

I just found this very useful webpage for people interested in air unit roundels:

In the spirit of PHalen's previous posting of a useful website resource, here's a site I've found to be very useful for silhouettes/drawings of all sorts of WW2 stuff:

I'm talking about text directly on the counters. I'm not sure whether it would work well with such small text or not.

I had a shadow at one point and it was distracting. I can't do an outline.

RE: Modding Tips, Pitfalls and Miscellaneous Info
That is too bad. Modding the counters is limited by the hard coded letters/numbers and symbols (and the colors thereof). If we could alter them that would be so great.
By the way, I can not seem to find the yellow AA gun icon anywhere. Hard coded??
