What about us on Steam?

Post by Tusler@Matrix »

I have
Command Modern Air/Naval Ops
Northern Inferno
Shifting Sands
The Silent Service
Chains of War
Desert Storm
Question: Since according to my previous post it was stated there is no way for Matrix to know what we have bought on Steam because they quit allowing Keys 3 or 4 years ago, Will we on Steam also be able to buy CMO at a reduced price from Matrix and have both the Matrix key and Steam Key?

My understanding is that if you bought CMANO on Steam, you'd get CMO on Steam at the reduced price - but not a Matrix key as there's currently no way to do that. If you bought the DLCs at Matrix you can simply use their Matrix keys as Steam keys, hence they'd work in Steam CMO too as it's back-compatible.

So if you buy on Steam, you only have it on Steam. Though sure, I would welcome a backwards key ability as I have a number of other games I bought on Steam (& Gog too) and it's a hassle to check where I have each game when it comes to DLCs & sales. That's the cost of chasing bargains!

So if I have CMANO and the DLCs on Steam and purchase CMO on Steam, I'll get the discount and only really
lose out on the Matrix Forums, not being able to register the game on Matrix.

You wouldn't be able to register the games at Matrix, but that would make no difference on the forums - Steam owners can participate as much as anyone else.

You can register a Matrix/Slitherine account without registering a game. Once you have that account, you can participate on any forum whether you've registered the corresponding game or not.

Yeah, I have my Matrix account from the old Harpoon stuff years ago. I own CMANO on Steam entirely, no Matrix.

With Steams new UI and forced advertising direction they are heading I really want to get away from steam but I see I will not be able to do it with CMO, I will bite the bullet on this but I think this is where I'm drawing the line.

You can use a desktop shortcut to start a game so you don't have to look at the Steam client after the initial startup.

FWIW you can also set the Steam client settings to display say, Library when you start it instead of the Store page. Look in Steam->Settings->Interface.

Yeah, Thanks, I setup the shortcut on my desktop, I just miss the library without the pictures, I liked it all text.
I think I'm going to pay full price and that way I can still use it on Steam without paying them! and I can use it without steam which is equally important.

If you buy full price, you can still get the Steam keys. I usually buy from Matrix and get the Steam keys anyway. Sometimes, for me it's just easier. I have cmano from Matrix and never really played it. However, New one I will try
